Art Deco and Durban have come a bit recently, so i thought i should trawl the net and see what i can find of Art Deco buildings in Durban. I just love this style and Durban truely has some utter gems that have been painstakingly returned to their glory over the past few years with the cities better buildings campaign. Enjoy and please add any others you may find!

For more info on Durban's art deco gems, or to get onto one of the cities art deco tours visit www.durbandeco.org.za or for a virtual tour users.iafrica.com/a/an/andryn/

Nice photos, keep them coming.
Awesome stuff Mike, some of these buildings still look in good nick after the years.
There are many in the Grey street area, will try & get some pics.
I love the art deco flavour of Durban... gives it such a nice look.

I really dislike the casino at night, I think its WAY too gaudy, but during the day it looks stunning.
I love the Casino's design, ppl always look at me funny when I say that, it mixes Durbans theme with Miami's. Sure its tacky & cheesy, but its got style ;)
Fabulous... Never knew Durbs had these...
Very beautiful. Painted in such the bright colours look very unusual and interesting.
OO, our own Miami Beach. I never really had a likening for Art Deco, but I come to appreciate it more as time goes on. I still hate those rounded plastic furniture. Eewh!
Didn't the tower at Howard College have some Nazi link ? I remember reading about this a few years ago. Either it was designed by someone with Nazi connections , or the design itself was a homage to Hitler
When living in Florida a number of years number of years back it was interesting that the locals in Miami use to go on as if they had full braging rights regarding Art Deco buildings.
I took great delight in suggesting a trip to Durban where even the buildings in Victoria Street would have given them somethig to think about.

Ya, the collection we have is little known, and Miami is held in highest esteem for there's. I wonder where actually has the largest number of Art deco buildings?
Just from obsevation I would say we have more than Miami
Had to bring this one back as so many of these beauties are now getting the love they deserve. From Pixley House to the Bales building in the CBD to blocks along the beachfront, vic and Berea.

Gotta love deco

And yes, Durban has some of the finest art deco buildings globally. :)
