Assault near Shudehill

On Friday night/early hours of Saturday morning I was assaulted while walking home alone near Shudehill bus station. The guy gave me a few punches to the head and demanded my (uninsured!) phone. He's given me a monstrous black eye and fractured my jaw in two places for which I'm currently in hospital in Liverpool. I was out with a few friends that night in the northern quarter. One of which walked home the same way about 45 mins later. She realised she was being followed by a similar gang (young Asian males) and ran back to a bar and told the bouncer. A guy I used to work with told me today he witnessed a girl being attacked at the same place by a similar gang a few weeks ago. So yeah I'm not starting this thread for sympathy, I just want everyone to be aware that there's a scumbag gang operating around Shudehill targeting lone people. GMP are obviously aware and are investigating.

Be safe guys!

I'm sorry to hear that Pablo. I hope you recover fully and quickly. I hope these scumbags are caught quickly too.
Sorry to hear that Pablo. Hope you make a speedy recovery.
That's sad to hear about Pablo. Nobody should have to fear this kind of thing in their own city. Hope they're taking good care of you in Liverpool. Its upsetting to see that the MEN have not made much of a deal about this, its an awful event.
Get well soon!

For those of us partial to a night out in the NQ, could you give us a few more tips as to what to look out for? Things like descriptions, numbers, modus operandi etc.
Cheers
Absolutely shocking. I have heard of Shudehill being dodgy.

I hope you recover quickly Pablo (and that they catch the scum).
Thanks for the well wishes guys :)

Gang of Asian lads (early twenties) pulled up in a car, a couple got out, one started a conversation and before I knew it he had my phone and my face was pouring with blood :eek:hno:
Get well soon Pablo.

I have never felt safe around Shudehill. Alongside Canal Street I would say it's the most unsafe part of the city to be in after dark and alone.

Whilst we are talking of gangs, did any of you see the article in the Men recently about the crystal meth users on Metrolink? This same gang, but this time in a larger group of 6 surrounded me when I was on a tram coming back from Rochdale about 6 weeks ago. The tram was empty and they got on at Derker I think. They immediately surrounded me sitting next, front back and to the side, so I was trapped.

I think I only got away with being robbed because I made it clear I wasnt going to be intimidated and I think they thought it was too risky to try and rob me right there on the tram, maybe I am wrong about that. Anyway, instead they took out a coke bottle and started doing crystal meth on the tram, I was sickened. One of them then started masturbating, yes really, these people were animals. They then began talking about what shops they were going to "hit" next. By this time we were reaching central park and although I was going to Didsbury I just needed to get off.

This was the first time I had been on this line and despite having lived in Manchester for 12 years I know little of the north side of the city. I did know that gmp were based right by the tram stop so thought this might be a safe place to get off. I was sure they were going to try something or follow me but they ended up letting me get off. I had my fist clenched in my pocket and was convinced they were going to smack me one as I got off.

As the doors closed behind me and I realised they had decided not to get off I noticed that there were community support police getting off the same tram but they were on the other section. I immediately told them and they got straight on the radio. At least one of the people in the men picture was in the gang that confronted me. He is even wearing the same clothes.

I called the men to report this but they seemed unbothered. They said they are liaising with the police but the police don't seem too bothered. I am just glad I never have to normally use this line from the city centre out to Rochdale again. The men article said this type of thing is rare, well it also happened to me. I am sure there are more people who have had to endure this. I dread to imagine children being on board having to witness this. The most shocking thing is that they simply had no fear, they were in control. Shocking.

Derker? Is that not a very undesirable area in Oldham? Oldham does have some dodgy places. What good are these CCTV cameras doing? There is enough of them and I don't know why they can't use them to get the gang in shudehill.

No council or police cameras where it happened (corner of Dantzic St and Hanover St). GMP have pretty much dropped the case since they have no leads. Of course, I did give them an address of a house in Rusholme where my phone's GPS tracker reported itself 15 mins after the theft. They didn't seem to be arsed investigating that though.

Found out a couple of weeks back that a friend of a friend suffered the same thing on Whitworth Street West (walking from Oxford Road to Deansgate Locks area) just under a month ago. Response from GMP: "There's no cameras round there". Investigation dropped. Probably the same gang. Fourth incident that I know of that involves what sounds like the same gang.

Totally lost faith in GMP and I'm not the only one. A friend from work was mugged in Alexandra Park a few years ago and got an equally pathetic response from GMP.
