The Sturt Hwy (A20) is the road to Adelaide. From here it is about 45km to Wagga Wagga and nearly 1000km to Adelaide.

Adelaide turnoff – Victoria
Between Gundagai and Albury it can feel lonely sometimes on the highway.
Once in Victoria rolling on the hills stop and make the left hand horizon for about 200km. However, once past Seymour one climbs the hills again to reach Melbourne on the other side. The M39 tracks north to Shepparton and back into NSW; the B340 heads into Seymour than tracks east to Eildon and nice little spots to spend the weekend from Melbourne.

A large project is coming to Queensland, the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing. It's a 41 kilometre bypass of Toowoomba that connects the Gore Highway in the southwest with the Warrego Highway in the east. The construction cost is A$ 1.6 billion, the project is an availability-based PPP. Construction will take place between 2015 and 2019.

Coalition Government signs East West Link contract
Thousands of workers will soon be building Australia's largest infrastructure project, stage one of the East West Link, after the Victorian Coalition Government signed contracts with East West Connect to build this vital piece of transport infrastructure.
"The total project will cost $6.8 billion to deliver, with the State Government contributing $2 billion. East West Connect will take on full responsibility for construction, operation and maintenance of the project, with the state receiving the benefit of tolls," Mr O'Brien said.
East West Link stage one will involve:
* Construction of 6.6 kilometres of freeway standard road connecting the Eastern Freeway at Hoddle Street to CityLink;
* Twin 4.4 kilometre three lane tunnels passing under Alexandra Parade, Princes Street, the Melbourne General Cemetery, Princes Park and Royal Park;
* A five year construction period, followed by a 25 year operating and maintenance period in return for capital contributions;
* Construction commencing later this year and the road expected to be complete by 2019.

CityLink Tulla widening gets the green light
Travelling to Melbourne Airport and to the city's north will be faster and more reliable, with Premier Denis Napthine announcing today that the government had signed an agreement with Transurban to deliver the CityLink Tulla Widening Project.
Dr Napthine said the $850 million project would significantly improve traffic conditions on the CityLink Tullamarine corridor which is one of the busiest roads in Melbourne, carrying 210,000 vehicles every day.
"The CityLink Tulla Widening project will boost capacity on the primary road route to the airport by 30 per cent and deliver travel time savings of up to 16 minutes on trips between Melbourne Airport and the West Gate Freeway during peak periods," Dr Napthine said.

Perth Freight Link construction to start 2016
The State Government will deliver on its commitment to remove heavy trucks off Leach Highway with construction of Western Australia’s largest road infrastructure project - the Perth Freight Link - scheduled to start in early 2016.
Premier Colin Barnett today confirmed the State Government would invest $650 million towards the $1.575 billion project, which will remove up to 500 trucks a day from Leach Highway and provide a more efficient and direct freight line to Fremantle Port.
The Perth Freight Link includes:
* extending Roe Highway west of the Kwinana Freeway to Stock Road in Coolbellup (Roe 8)
* upgrading Stock Road through O’Connor and Willagee with grade separated interchanges at Winterfold Road, South Street and Leach Highway
* upgrading Leach Highway and High Street with grade separated interchanges at Carrington Street, High Street and Marmion Street
* upgrades to the southern end of Stirling Highway and improvements to High Street in Fremantle.

My favourite vantage point is still a service road near Bangalow which has good views over the project in the Byron Creek valley.

If the federal government wants to lose the next election singlehandedly due to a single state maybe... the incoming government has released the papers that showed a payoff period > 50 years and would deliver an economic loss of 50%.
It was a terrible proposal, a huge waste of money and a highly questionable move to sign contracts in the lead-up to an election, knowing that there was huge opposition to the project.

From a network perspective, it seems the easiest to link the Eastern Freeway with the CityLink. It's only a short tunnel of 5 kilometers. But I've read arguments that the western leg is more pressing due to the high population growth in this part of Melbourne.
Has it been considered to widen the West Gate Freeway and add a new span at the West Gate Bridge? That may have been more cost-effective than building a 12 kilometer (underground?) motorway from CityLink to the Western Ring Road.

Has using the motorway symbol become a thing in Australia? or at least in NSW? (It would be a nice move after the switch to alphanumerical system of route numbering)Down the road around Moss Vale, the Hume Fwy from the Sydney end finished here in the 1980s with two lanes all the way into Victoria back then.
Also, there is no direct ramp from M1 Pacific Motorway southbound to M15 Hunter Motorway northbound, why is that?
