30-Story Alexan Capitol Apartment Tower Planned at 11th & Sabine

The multifamily project in the developing stages at the Texas Trucking Association site on 700 East 11th Street has finally come into focus. Previously known only as 11th & Sabine Multifamily, we now know the development’s identity and use from new city documents, which use the name Alexan Capitol.
Alexan is a brand of apartment communities in seven states by multifamily developer Trammell Crow Residential, which almost guarantees this project’s usage as apartments, rather than condos. The developer has amped up its presence in the state recently, with new Alexan-branded developments rising in Dallas and East Austin. With 30 floors, Alexan Capitol will be the tallest tower in the brand’s Texas portfolio so far.

This project has had multiple name changes, and the name has changed again. The last three names were Alexan Capitol >Alexan on 11th > Alexan Capital.

The crane is going up today. This was taken from the construction webcam for the 1601 Congress State office building.

The crane is for the Alexan. The site prep in the foreground is for the 15-story Huston apartment project.

The Alexan is not in one of the busy parts of downtown, and progress photos are hard to come by. Here's one from the Austin Business Journal, but the action in the pit is not shown. The site prep at center-right is for a city park that is getting a major upgrade including an amphitheater and art installations.

Here's a short drone video of the site and another apartment building across I-35.

The site prep next to this tower is related to the Symphony Square Tower project.
