Habib has a very matured voice... style is like Sachin Dev Burman but very original. What I don't like about his and many new singers songs is how they digitally alter the timbre. Sometimes they sounds so artificial.

Some of the best Bangla songs belong to "Gonoshongeet" genre. If you like gonoshongeet, listen to the songs composed by Shaheed Altaf Mahmud, Samar Das, Sheikh Lutfur Rahman, Dr Amanur Rahman, Abu Zafar (Farida Perveen's husband). Samaresh Das was the first composer/conductor of Bangladesh Army band. Fakir Alamgir is truly a people's person. A down to earth individual in real life too.

You must have heard the recent remakes of Samar Das' "Bijoy keton urey" and "Nongor tolo tolo". Bangladeshi Band Rennaissance has recorded some old gonoshongeet too.

I couldn't find "nongor tolo tolo" - it was sung in patriotic songs part of Closeup1 2006. Anybody finds it, please post it here.

And yes.... I love patriotic songs made by the new singers and bands too. James, Ayub Bachhu have some nice numbers.

Wow Khalek.... very nice selection. The two folk (baul) songs by Paban Das will be on my MP3 player today along with the whole album. Paban Das and Sam Mills of London released this great album in early 90's. It's Bangla title is "Ashol Chini" - in English "Real Sugar" and also nicknamed "Real World". See if you can ink the third song from the album - "Porojonome".



Farida Parveen is also one of my most favorite singers.
