New headquarters a lift for Bank Rakyat

PETALING JAYA: Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd’s (Bank Rakyat) new RM460mil headquarters, called the Bank Rakyat Twin Towers, will improve the bank’s efficiency when completed in 2011.

“With the construction of the Bank Rakyat Twin Towers, the bank’s staff in the headquarters will be able to work in a same building, which in turn will help to ease, organise and smoothen banking operations at the branch level,” said Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Nor Omar.

“It will also allow the staff to provide better services to members, customers and the public,” Noh said at the groundbreaking ceremony in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The Bank Rakyat Twin Towers, one of 32 storeys and the other 38 storeys, will be built on a 3.78-acre piece of land located at Jalan Travers, Kuala Lumpur.

According to the bank’s group managing director, Datuk Kamaruzaman Che Mat, the bank had a good deal when it bought the land for RM43mil in 2006.

At that time, the conservative market price was about RM65mil.

The construction cost of the twin towers, with a built-up area of 1.8 million square feet, was estimated at RM460mil, he said.

Bank Rakyat, converted to an Islamic bank in 2003, is now the biggest Islamic bank in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

It currently has 117 branches throughout Malaysia.

Bank Rakyat mahu ke luar negara

Oleh Ahmad Fiesal Othman
[email protected]

Bank Rakyat to have its own twin towers

By Rupinder SinghPublished: 2009/01/09

BANK Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd, which is planning to expand abroad this year, is spending some RM460 million on a new headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The building will have twin towers with over 1.3 million square ft of floor space. It is expected to be completed in 2011.

Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Noh Omar officiated at the ground breaking ceremony in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Speaking to reporters after the launch, managing director Datuk Kamaruzaman Che Mat said the bank is mulling plans to expand its business overseas either by setting up a branch or via acquisitions this year.

It is keen to start its maiden cross-border venture in Muslim countries with dense population in the region.

Bank Rakyat is Malaysia's largest Islamic cooperative bank and has been syariah compliant since 2003.

Kamaruzaman said Bank Rakyat will open five to 10 new branches nationwide this year. He did not say where the new branches will be located although now it has 117 branches nationwide.

Kamaruzaman expects slower growth this year for the banking industry but still anticipates higher profit and asset growth for the bank.

The lender expects to post over RM1 billion in profit before tax and zakat last year, as well as to grow its assets to over RM40 billion for the 12 months ended December 2008.

cantik jugak lah....

tp, bank rakyat tu bukan bank komersial. dia bank koperasi, banyak utk pinjaman/loan. dah femes dah bank rakyat ni, kalo nak buat loan, bagus bank rakyat ni. so, building 70 storey just for corporate image is not nessasary lah...they already femes...
