Yep. Suburban population of Ankara is much larger than many cities itself. For example, another ~340,000 people lives in Çayyolu(Ümitköy-Konutkent-Beysukent etc).

Beysukent is very close to Hacettepe University as I know and the city is expanding to the west through Eskisehir..The population is increasing in those locations..There are villa type private homes..Umitkoy is pretty big..Those locations are almost like provinces of Ankara..I think real estate prices are increasing in those locations. As I heard, people are living in the downtown are moving there so far..But they are really cool places..Most plain parts of Ankara is on the Eskisehir highway

Batikent is the one of the first examples of such establishment in Turkey. Neighbourhoods formed by high blocks, lowrise apartments and villas which are seperated from each other by open air spaces (gardens etc.). It is quiet old, therefore not much beatiful but still developing. Mainly populated by middle class. Peaceful town. It is close to and also hosts organised industrial and commercial areas.

Çayyolu is newer, holds better designed districts, Ümitköy, Bilkent, Beysukent, Konutkent etc.., big shopping centers, Turkey's some of the best universities. Today, Çankaya might be the most developed, and central district of Ankara, but Çayyolu (Eskisehir Road) has become the most popular and also the most expensive area of Ankara. That's why I support the idea of Kartal becoming another central spot for Istanbul.

Both Çayyolu and Batikent are asking for establishing their own municipalities but not allowed because bigger municipalities like Çankaya, Yenimahalle etc. are benefiting from them very well. I hope they would be allowed to become a central town of Ankara, as soon as possible.
