This is up now. It is over an hour long! Just heard the views of Paddy, from EH, and I actually agree with what he has said so far (he hasn't given his views on the Shard or other tall buildings yet however).

-Sunand Prasad, RIBA president-elect

Loved the film.

LBT- when it started it had a terrible bottom. Nice top, terrible bottom. Irvine bought more site around the tower, planning improved the building. It is better designed now, especially at ground level.

-Angela Brady, young award-winning architect and advisor to the London Development Agency

Views:

London needs to be shaped by people, needs to be more green and pedestrian, loved the film, need to put design at the top of the agenda. Cannot be held back by heritage lobbies, need to allow development to shape London into a brave new world. Most important- street level, eco friendly.

-Paddy Pugh, English Heritage

Views:

Enjoyed the film. Calls himself a ‘villain’ lol. He says we need to keep the very best of London. He says that it is find to talk about giving architects free reign, if they are world class architects, but many are not and do not have London’s best interests at heart, so it is risky. Need to confront developments that are put up as quickly and cheaply as possible to get as much floor space as possible.

London is ugly/lovely. Anyone can be a Londoner, just as anyone can be a New Yorker. No one can just ‘be’ a Parisian. London apparently was built by sexual energy and has the best free sex in the world! (and that’s why they put up the erotic Gherkin:)) This is the man who ‘squeezed’ the Gherkin. When Ken Shuttleworth brought it in to his office, he told him to make it ‘thinner and taller’, so that it would be ‘elegant’. He says it has allowed him to travel the world talking about free sex on the back of that one achievement. He said ‘you could say I’m the man who took the square out of the square mile’:)
