This thread is inspired by the upcoming year-long program titled ‘Beautiful Bangladesh’ which will be held in 2009 with a target of earning at least US$ 500 million from tourism industry during one year period.

This will be a continuation of the "Bangladesh - Tourism" thread. We already have a separate thread for Paharpur, Palaces and Zamindars mansions. Post any beautiful photo of Bangladesh here. This should be an excellent thread.

Tk 700m projects for development of Kuakata tourist spot

The government has taken up projects involving Tk 700 million (70 crore) for development of the Kuakata tourist spot.

A two-year project involving Taka 100 million (10 crore) for infrastructural development includes renovation of two Buddhist temples, development of a youth tourist centre, construction of a motel and purchase of modern transports.

Another project costing Taka 600 million includes construction of three bridges, and a motel at Barisal is under consideration, sources said.
The infrastructural development project proposal has already been completed. The Public Works Department will renovate the two Buddhist temples.

The rest of the work includes construction of a 10-bed motel, a 200-bed youth tourist centre and purchase of two air conditioned luxury tourist buses by the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation.

it's a restaurant.
Excellent pics Tmac! I had no idea these places were so beautiful.
Kaptai lake maybe the most beautiful place in Bangladesh. I don't know why it isn't that famous.
^^ Well, it's certainly beautiful, but not unique as far as the natural aspect is concerned...there are many beautiful lakes in the world after all. Even here in South Carolina, there is a reservoir lake called Lake Jocassee which is very similar, being surrounded by hills and with waterfalls dumping into it. On the other hand, if Kaptai is promoted both for its beauty and for the indigenous tribal culture, that would go a long way to distinguish it from other similar water bodies. I don't know if any of you are familiar with the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii. If something similar was set up in Rangamati showcasing the tribal tradiitons of the Hill Tracts, that combined with the attractive natural setting, could be a potential draw for foreign tourists. That, plus improving existing lodging, infrastructure, and public safety.
