Wow... I was just looking through this thread, and saw quite a few of my own photos! It seems that most went through an infamous "lending"-outfit (beijingupdates.com) already. It's been known to use (and even watermark!) my friends' and my photos continuously, see the discussion here:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/beijingarchitecture/discuss/72157600492585442/

This was the reason to start watermarking my images. A week or two ago, I decided to stop watermarking my images, and they immediately popped up again on that site:

I'm really sorry if this is considered off topic, but I was simply unpleasantly surprised that the photos were appearing here too!

flickr has password protection that can be used if someone doesn't want their page to be accessed. by not using this feature, one implicitly accepts the possibility that people, enthusiasts in this case, will link to or copy the photos. for free. that's how the internet works.

it's really disingenuous to put images out on the net but complain when people actually want to look at them at have their friends see them.

not to mention it's rather curmudgeonly of someone to slap massive text over images ruinging the images in a small way for people that are just interested in seeing something.

I found your images linked on another architecture blog and I was actually excited to see new photos of the CCTV tower. I flipped through the images, then closed my browser. Sometimes sharing images is actually an act of goodwill rather than business as usual. I know of no one that would want to try and act as though your images are theirs...esp. as mentioned above, if they are posted on flickr.....geez.

Thanks ever so much tom, i had no idea about the Construction updates you had been posting on flickr, and will start looking there more frequently, especially now things are starting to get interesting!! Shame about people stealing your pictures and claiming them as their own, seems incredibly rude. If possible please post every time you update pictures they are greatly appreciated here, and we havent had as regular updates as would be desired.

Thanks again and welcome to the forums. (i wish all new members were this useful)

Hey Pronaos,

Can you explain why there will only be a couple of hours to make these connections?

Cheers.
Domenico,
I found out the facts on why those connections need to be made quickly.

The construction crew has ONE hour to make 40 connections. This would make the bridge sturdy enough because once the bridge connects the towers they support their weight by leaning against the bridge. Leaning up against each other, the strength of the bridge is the major thing keeping them upright.

I found this information in a video on YouTube (its around the 3:50 mark):

Horizontal element already much more integrated

Wow! Thanks for all the feedback (great to be part of such an active community!)- I really appreciate it, also the feedback about the watermarks.

I agree it doesn't look nice, and I've just made them smaller in the Photoshop action. I'm definitely one of the enthusiasts too, and was also flattered to see the images, but I didn't really appreciate the watermarking of our images with another website's URL. Also, the crediting only started after Chas and I started watermarking our photos. In any case, I think this topic can be discussed at the flickr URL I gave earlier- most of our points appear there too. I apologise for having brought it up in this forum, it was off topic.

Now... back to the real subject: the building!! I took some new photos this morning.

The first horizontal element has now been fitted in much more securely:

The construction of the edges of TVCC (in this case the north west side) are leading to some ongoing synchronised acrobatics from the crews:

I've posted around 10 new images at the usual location: CCTV Building Development.

Enjoy! And thanks again for all the frank feedback. If you'd like any specific shots, please just let me know!

Pronaos thx for the find!! :D

Still cannot determine what they mean though. I guess im looking for a more techincal explanation and not the Discovery Channel explanation. However the other episode is awesome too!

Tom, thx for the pics! Love them! Are the close ups of the facade here yours too? I REALLY DROOLED when I saw them :D

Wow- nope those facade photos in your link aren't mine- they're definitely very impressive! I was drooling too!

I wish I had full* access to the site- although it seems CCTV is very fussy about it, OMA is trying to arrange to it (I do photos for their PR too), but they said it's notoriously difficult- and this is what I heard from an ARUP employee too.

* the access to the site I've had so far was not official, so I'm not publicising those photos.
