I've been to Berat, the pictures don't do it justice at all. There's an illusion in the hills as you near the town and it seems almost like an oasis. There is still greenery and trees outside of the town, but it's just such a dramatic difference between the town and the surrounding landscape - you can't really see that in these photos.

I started laughing when i read that she had been to Berat :hahaha:
Berat is such an old city really , easily 2000 years old
It is heavily influenced with bizantine architecture
Great town in my opinion and i dont mean beautie wise but just being around it , not to mention that the highest mountain in Albania is located in this area :cheers:

How come there men are not wearing those egg shell hats that I have seen Kosovo Albanians wear?

Because the egg shell hat is a geg tradition
Central and southern albanians dont wear that type of hat
Only certain places in the north of the country bordering Kosovo wear it
And , the hat is part of the traditional costume for the area but people in Kosovo still wear them in everyday life
It's like scotish people wearing kilts in the middle of Glasgow
I dont think they do wear them kilts on a regular basis :runaway:

My Grandmother has a picture of my Mother standing on the steps of the National Library in Sarajevo. She's wearing black shoes, knee-high white socks, a black skirt to her knees, a white shirt, a red bowtie, and home-knitted black sweater, and her hair cut like a bowl was on her head...hehehe...

Older in life...same thing...replace black shoes with white high-heels and change the bowtie to a scarf tied around the neck.

Communist fashion in Sarajevo was a lot like, I don't know, flight attendants. At least from the pictures I've seen...hehehe.

I finally get to see a picture of Berat including its newer part. I was tired of seeing the same place for the same angle. Thanx for the pictures Football. I have also noticed that you rarely get to see pictures of Berat from inside the old neighborhood. I mean pictures of the streets and the pazari. Also, when was that bridge in the last picturwe built?
