MORE Informations, in the german SSC-Thread:

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1037397

Wertheim was a large department store chain in pre-WWII Germany. It was founded by Georg Wertheim and operated four stores in Berlin, one in Rostock, one in Stralsund (where it had been founded), and one in Breslau.
The large Wertheim store on Leipziger Platz in Berlin, seen in the 1920s. It was the biggest department store in Europe at the time.

The chain's most famous store, on Leipziger Platz in Berlin, was constructed in 1896. It featured 83 elevators and a glass-roofed atrium, and was one of the three largest department stores (Warenhäuser) in Berlin, the others being Hermann Tietz and Kaufhaus des Westens. Brian Ladd called it “the crown jewel of the main shopping street." [1] The building was badly damaged in WWII and fell in the no man's land between East and West Berlin after the division of the city. The ruins were demolished in the 1950s.

Geil! Thanks for opening this thread and providing us with updates in the future, Ludi! :eek:kay:

LP12 is a fantabulous project for Berlin. Right in between Potsdamer Platz and Friedrichstraße, this is turning into a new hub for commercial/shopping and urban life. Finally, Leipziger Platz is becoming a vital spot for Berlin.

A massive, massive project I am looking forward to. If it would only conclude the Leipziger Platz ("the octogon"),
which was a sad view for many years really, it would have been already great. BUT it is also a high quality
design that will instantly push the whole neighborhood (well, it is a neighborhood for itself, regarding how big it is :))
to a new quality level.

Nice Bonus: the great Bundesrat-Building (federal council) will get a prominent visual axis and hence get more of the attention it deserves.

As I've said, I am really looking forward to this one

Amazing progress indeed, thanks a lot for keeping us up to date! :applause:

I'm really looking forward to see LP12 finished. Especially for the passage to the Bundesrat building and the rooftop gardens. Should be fairly nice seen from Kollhoff-Tower at Potsdamer Platz then.

Great project, from both architectural and urban aspect. I remember seeing similar renders of various projects around Berlin and I wish more cities would do especially the redeveloping in the cental areas with this kind of really high quality urban fabric.
