Berlin is basking in sunshine and warmth at the moment and to celebrate this I did a little bit of a walking tour of the district in which I live, Prenzlauer Berg. All photos were taken by me today and I have attempted to show a bit of a different side to Berlin, away from the usual tourist images you see on these forums. I have also included some pictures of historical interest from my neighbourhood as a reminder of past events. Sorry about some of the images being a bit washed out as the sun was incredibly bright, but i don't pretend to be an expert at this...

Firstly, the Kulturbrauerei. Once a brewery, now an entertainment comlex with clubs, cinemas, restaurants etc:

The U-bahn surfaces at Eberswalderstraße Station. This is a very busy intersection:

From Eberswalter U-bahn platform:

Walking underneath the rail bridge:

Stargarderstraße:

Currywurst and other typical Berlin specialties:

Helmholzplatz:

Unrenovated facade (pre 1989 most buildings looked like this in Prenzlauer Berg. The interior would now be modernised):

Neighbouring building:

Planetarium:

Prenzlauer Allee S-bahn Station:

Ernst Thälmann monument:

Brass plaque honouring holocaust victim. You see these scattered around Berlin at spots where they once lived:

Many street names honour socialist heroes who mainly fell victim to the Nazis. This one is unique because it is in the old style GDR script:

Typical entry to apartment building:

Boutique dog accessories store

Translation: On this spot during New Years Eve 1930-31 the young social democrat Willy Schneider was murdered by the S.A. Man Becker:

Finally a rest in Volkspark Friedrichshain:

And that's it. Hope you enjoyed :)

Gotta love P Berg, one of the best places (yet little photographed) in Berlin.

I do like how it's retained its slightly "gritty" appearance despite gentrification and massive restoration. The transit network is something to be envied as well, 5 minute U-bahn frequencies and 10 minute S-bahn frequencies (as well as the ringbahn)... Lucky devils.

Also, I know you guys have been getting 30 odd degree weather at the moment, I'm so jealous!
