As Blabby would say, 'The bleaker the better'. I think I might just agree:

Well done 'gappa'.
Car headlights on at 3:00pm yesterday was great. Simply cold, wet and just dam miserable made me happy to be in Melbourne, I love it! So Melbourne! Our climate is an assett in my opinion.
awesome shots... wish i were there right now. Melbourne is a beautiful city.
My sentiments exactly. No other Australian city looks as great in the rain.

Oh man you've made me jealous, Iwish I could spend tomorrow sitting under an umbrella watching the rain soak into the grass and the yarra.

That second shot specifically.

Also, by the looks of those lawns, it looks like you guys have got a bit of rain recently. when did that start happening? Either way, it looks gorgeous.
Perfect. Lovely work gappa - a long wet walk but well worth it! Viewed them all. This was my favorite:

Nice pics. Never seen Melbourne in the rain before but it still doesn't fail to impress even when the sky is gloomy.
Looks even more European than it does already with the rain and the church spires in the background. This shot especially looks brilliant. Could almost be in Amsterdam or something.

Well done! I've been really wanting to take some shots in the rain. You beat me too it :p
The reflections of city lights are great when it rains.

Superb collection there gappa. Thanks for sharing :eek:kay:

Those shots are great!

Melbourne looked so dark and cold and gloomy (weatherwise) but its streets were still busy despite the adverse weather. You're a great photographer!

Some of those pics could've been taken right out of maybe a Berlin, Munich, Amsterdam brochure (northernish European cities - too cold for southern ones)!

Melbourne has the same averages as Athens during winter, and is marginally warmer than Rome and Barcelona.... Its only a few degrees colder than Sydney you realise... Is Sydney 3 degrees off being Berlin in winter?

Melbourne is slightly warmer than Athens in winter. Athens Janurary average I think is around 11/12ºC

It would be good if we could get that Bleak city reputation back again..even if only for long enough to fill the dams..seeing they wont build anymore!....a bit of sunshine inbetween would be OK!

Winter in Northern Europe never has leaves on the trees and the grass is usually brown due to frost (or covered in snow). Most of the inland cities get very dry too - as in snow or nothing.

When I spent a winter in Austria, I remember actually seeing dust coming up from the trams, as at -10 degrees the humidity is very low, and causes everything to dry out. I actually missed the rainy, stormy weather that Melbourne has.

The city does look like northern Europe in those pics, but more like summer or early autumn.

I told this to one of your previous accounts but I'll tell you again. We're not like plants and do not need sunshine to survive.

On the other hand, we're in a massive drought which is only starting to show signs of relief, the grass has been yellow for months, we're on the edge of Stage 4 restrictions and everyone else is sick and tired of long chains of hot days as well as your whinging about the weather.

Bring on rain and bring on winter. There's only so many days you want to come home bathed in sweat, and I've got enough photos with clear blue skies. And Melbourne looks great in the rain, I've been meaning to go out on a rainy day to take photos but there just aren't enough of them, and usually the only rain comes after a sudden change where your first priority is to avoid catching a cold. :)

Just think how great it would be if the rain was pouring down outside..cold even...and you were all warm and cosy inside on your computer on SSC !!! What more could you want? If it is a beautiful sunny day out you can't sit in front of one of these things really !!!!
