Hello Skyscraper Lovers!

I'm a photographer from London, currently working as Head of Photography at GMJ Bratislava, an Architectural Visualistation company with offices here in Blava. ( www.gmj.net ).

I have relocated to Bratislava for one year and am really enjoying the Modernist and Commie architecture of the city.

I am particularly fond of Hotel Kyjev. My partner and I stayed here on our first night in Blava and absolutely LOVED it, with its austere communist feel and retro design.

I am trying to get my company GMJ to tender for the Visualisations of this project with Lordschip.cz as I am unable to find out anything with regard to the redevlopment of Kamenné námestie / CentrePlaza.

There is lots of talk about demolition, and also lots of talk about 'redevelopment' without demolition. I have not yet seen any proposals and I wish to hear from anyone also interested in this topic to post images/visualization of Centre Plaza Proposals here, in this post.

If anyonehas any news or new info (in English preferably - my Slovak is very basic so far) I would be extremely grateful,

Kindest regards

James Ball

P.S. GMJ are looking for a Photoshop Artist specialising in Architecture to assist me here. Anyone interested in this please contact me via Skyscaper city.

hi, welcome to skyscrapercity! Glad to hear you are enjoying it here in Bratislava. Unfortunately we are all waiting for some visualisations for Centre Plaza, but it has been every quiet about it lately. They promised they would inform the public about the project by latest April, but nothing has happened since. From what I remember, the main architect of Bratislava is trying to convince Lordship to make an architectural competition for the project. Lordship's argument is that they have good architects (I dont know who they are). The problem is that the main architect of Bratislava has no power, therefore he can't force them to do anything. We'll see what happens:eek:hno:
welcome to SSC jb..as slowake already said we just have to wait what will happen next. I´ll be glad to see any action that will change status quo about this part of our capital.

And now some photos I´ve found...:)

These are not taken by myself. They are from this blog.

i see 3 main problems with this square:

1. the lack of will of the developers of Prior and Kyjev to bring the project to an end and demolish those random buildings standing in the middle of the square.
2. the arrogance of the owners of Tesco and Kyjev to maintain the building in a good shape, instead using it as a cheap space for advertising.
3. the disinterest of the city to solve the problem, or at least keep the place clean. In the opposite, they even made the thing worse by allowing the construction of those random buildings around.

There is only two things I remember from that square:
1. huge advertisings
2. quite big amout of homeless people even during the daytime
Any Updates on this?

Any updates on this?

I have heard that the redevelopment company is trying to aquire some of the residential area surrounding the Tesco's complex and this is what is slowing the public information down.

Also It was speculated that the complex /Hotel Kyjev would be demolished although the counter argument to this is that the Development company have successful the 'ecterna' and 'internal' elements of another building in Bratislava and they would not have to neccesarily knock down the Kjev to rennovate it.

Any more info?

Pleast post here

Kindest regards

James

^^ what are you talking about mate:)
share your info with us
Whole Kamenné plaza should be reconstructed by Lordship and hotel Kyjev should be demolished as well as Tesco store. The developer is Lordship. Or et least it should be Lordship because there are no new information about this project since the last year.

Hotel Kyjev is a great name!

We have a hotel Bratislava http://www.bratislava.com.ua/

Hotel Kyjev was during commie era the best in Bratislava. Almost all foreign (especially Western) visitors lived there. It was full of dollars, prostitutes:D and so on. It was something like island of the West in the Eastern block. Well, revolutions change everything...

Ukrainian hotel Bratislava looks quite like our hotel Bratislava, isn't it?

hehe you understood! I just realized it wasn't polite of me to write it in slovak but obviously it didn't matter. :)
Yeah, reading Slovakian is only slightly harder than reading Polish for me
Infos

I have been told by a friend from friends who is job at JandT that the redevolpments of this hotel has already starteds inside that some floor s of the building are not longer accesible.

Bratislava people were not talk to before this happen. The model and image we were waiting for in february this year has not happen. The big money man has maked the demolition start early I have heard from my friend of frind.

Does anyones else have informations?
Hi Salami

Hi Salami;

I too am interested in any information regarding the devlopment of Hotel Kyjev.

As far as I know though I think you are wrong. I was talking with staff today and they say that they are still taking bookings until next year, possibly until 2009.

She also mentioned that that, was a change in what they had been told before, although no one really know anything clear.

I think Lordship are the developers and they are trying to purchase all the land around the area to 're-construct' the hotel.

Theres very little info going around, but as far as staff have been made aware; its still going to be there until next year...

thanks

James
