Brescia Stadium
Brescia | Lombardia | Italy

Italo-Australians come to Italy to build a modern stadium in the city of Brescia. The old Stadio Mario Rigamonti (built in 1950s) must be demolished in order to leave room for the new one. The proposed project is based on the "Brescia Music City", a place which aims at hosting not only football matches but also major entertainment/music events. The project should include a sports venue with a capacity of 25,000 seats, hotel, offices, congress centre, restaurants and boutiques.

The city of Brescia had previously issued a public tender which envisaged a regeneration project for the Mompiano area, and to which privates were called to participate. Brescia Mayor: "I've met the investors and they have clear ideas". "This is a first phase - the investors said - in which we want to introduce ourselves to the city and to make contacts with the local entrepreneurs: we intend to create 2,000 jobs, 500 only for the realization of the project".

The investor team is headed by John Caniglia, Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General of the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Australia (Melbourne). Now Brescia FC is also considering the idea of participating to the call launched by the local administration. The mayor said that both investors and the local football club could opt to work together at end.

A state-of-art stadium (25,000 seats), with a retractable roof, was designed to accommodate not only the sports matches, but also the great concerts of Live Nation, the global giant of musical events. A 250-rooms hotel, a 550-seat theater, restaurants, boutiques, gyms and other services will be integrated to the stadium. The design is ispired by the "Rosa Camuna" ("Camunian Rose"), which is the name given to a particular symbol represented among the rock carvings of the Camonica Valley (Brescia).

The Italian-Australian investors must convince the owner of Brescia FC to join the project. Local newspapers have said that the operation is worth between 100 and 150 million euros, and that even the Italian Credit for Sport Institute could lend a hand. But without the agreement with Mr. Massimo Cellino (football club owner) nothing can be done. The Mayor of Brescia hopes that both sides will find a deal.
