Brisbane is the third largest city in Australia with more than 2 million residing within the Greater Metropolitian Area. The Brisbane City Council area is home to half of that population.

It is named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, the Governor of New South Wales from 1821-1825

Brisbane is located in the state of Queensland on the shores of Moreton Bay.

The city dates back to 1824, when it was created as a colony to house the "worst of the worst" convicts that had been originally been sent down to Sydney and they were subject to brutal treatment. A settlement had been established at what is now Redcliffe, 30 kilometres north of the city but was abandoned.

In 1859, the state of Queensland was formed and Brisbane would become the capital of Queensland.

The city became a major US Army base for American soldiers fighting in the Pacific in World War Two. General Douglas McArthur coordinated the allied battle from Brisbane. After World War Two, there was significant urban development and accelerated further from the 1970's. Many new residents have come from Sydney and Melbourne due to the lower costs of living, warmer climate and employment opportunities.

Brisbane has emerged as a major city over the past thirty years. This began with the city hosting the Commonwealth Games in 1982 and hosted World Expo 88 back in 1988. In 2001 it hosted the Goodwill Games and will host the 2014 G20 summit.

Also it has emerged as a cultural hub supported by a stronger focus on culture.

Here are some photos I took earlier this month.

111 Eagle wowed me. I've been a fan of it through its construction. I have to say its the right building for Brisbane and it has been built at the right time. I think it reflects the Brisbane of today.

That looks great to me. I like very much the high building with the drawing on it.

The new skyline is fantastic! :D

This photo has really a LA feeling, like seeing downtown from Hollywood Hills.
Its a steep hill where i took the photo from. It was taken in the eastern suburb of Bulimba. I actually followed a walk that was in a book about suggested walks to take in Brisbane.

From the west, you will also find plenty of streets where you can get the Hollywood/LA style shots.

I had the chance to catch the lift up to level 30 of the Sofitel Hotel in Central Brisbane and snapped these from the waiting area for the lifts.

It reminds me of Nairobi a bit, all that's missing are wild animals with the skyline in the, Brisbane seems to be a very nice place

Brisbane is a City, it's in the world so that title fits OK.
