www.cbrd.co.uk is a website about British roads, particularly motorways and has heaps of information and pictures of motorways around the country, and motorways of the past and future and some other tpyes of road. There is a particular highlight of Leeds but thats only coz the guy who runs the site lives there.

M8

Starts Edinburgh
Ends Greenock
Passes Glasgow, Paisley
Length 61 Miles

The first and last east-west motorway north of the M62, the M8 links up Edinburgh and Glasgow in style. It runs from the A720 Edinburgh Ring Road across the old A8 and right into the absolute centre of Glasgow. This urban stretch blasts a path through the city and then out the other side, giving up the chase for Greenock ten miles short.

At it's largest, the M8 is 10 lanes wide.

The all conquering M8 is actually 11 lanes wide at one point be_happy :)

One of the busiest roads in Europe, and part of what is probably the smallest ring road in the world.

Links to the Kingstone Bridge, busiest road bridge in Europe with traffic in excess of 180,000 vehicles a day, 9 times more traffic than it was originally designed to hold. One of the widest bridges in the world at 10 lanes wide, complete with central reservation.

Stretches between the Edinburgh City bypass, through Livingstone and Glasgow, and terminates at Greenock.

Whilst running through Glasgow part of the motorway is Elevated, American Highway style.

Some pictures of what has to be the most "impressive" motorway in the UK

If anywhere the in the UK can beat this, I would love to see it.

Late afternoon on the M8 on the run-up to the Kingston Bridge

Heading to Edinburgh, 10 lanes

A bit of greenery and a whole lot of lanes

Sorry for the low quality shot of the Kingston

Wow, Glasgow looks almost like an American city from this angle!

whilst the bridge portion of the m8 does indeed look great, the M8 is only 10/11 lanes wide on small portions that lead of as slip roads, just like many other motorways across the uk. Its not a "10 lane motorway" per se - which would be pretty cool.

I guess you're probably right that it would be wrong to consider the M8 a 10 lane motorway. For the most part of its Edinburgh to Greenock route, it is 6 lanes wide, but during its more urban sections, especially through Glasgow it does indeed grow to 10 lanes of pure motorway, not slip roads. There's even an 18 lane section in the South Side, although this is definately due to slip roads and the junction with the M77. Maybe we'll see this grow even larger with the construction of the M74?
