Also sorry to post in English, but since I think you guys had the same discussion, I'd like to weigh in. I'm not that pleased with the finished product, some of the ornaments don't match the ones on the old building (the vases on the roof) and the decision not to blend the old and the new building so they appear as a single block is mind-boggling, the clash of the new and the old is awkward to say the least. Also, the old building should've been renovated, but I guess there is still time for that. All in all, I was really looking forward to this project, as it was something quite unique, never have we seen an unfinished historicist building being finished according to the original design, but I feel like the opportunity was slightly wasted with some weird decisions, even though the building is not a catastrophe in any way.

Thank you very much for this information!

History of Kossuth Square construction:

The first building on Kossuth Square was the block of the Ministry of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce, which was built between 1885-87 according to the plans of Gyula Bukovics. This was followed by the building of the Palace of Justice -in hungaria: "Kúria"- designed by Alajos Hauszmann between 1893-96. Meanwhile, between 1885 and 1902, the Neo-Gothic palace of the Parliament -in hungarian: "Országház"- was built according to the plans of Imre Steidl.

The unified composition of the other buildings of the square was created by Dezső Hültl in 1927. An important aspect of the design was the alignment of the walls of Kossuth Square with the existing buildings (Parliament, Ministry, Palace of Justice). Therefore, he is planning a single facade on the north and south sides of the square, but in fact several independent buildings.
The northern side of the square was built between 1927-28, but only half of the southern side was completed between 1930-40, then the II. World War II interrupted the sequel.

Between 1969-72, Béla Pintér designed a modern office building on the empty space. This building was demolished in 2017 partly because of its poor technical condition, and partly because of the uniform architectural appearance of the space.
Instead, the new Parlament office building was built on a 1927 plan in 2018-19. The construction was carried out under the "Steidl Imre program".

Misspelled 2 times: name of the architect is Imre Steindl (and definitely NOT Steidl :bash:)

Why did they decide not to continue the uniform row of pilasters and vases along the facade but make a visible border between the old and the new parts breaking the rhythm? Was it due to technical reasons?
UPD: Just noted that Titan Man has already mentioned the same.

A great project, anyway. Quite an unprecedented one for our time.
According to the architect, a thicker sidewall should be used. Statics, fire protection. I didn't see the plans, not convincing me, but separates the old and the new building well. The old, many-owned private building, and the new: state office building.

ui. :D
