Bush comes to Latvia

7329 Views 101 Replies 30 Participants Last post by  JohnFlint1985
U.S. President George W. Bush has accepted President Vaira Vike-Freiberga's invitation and will visit Riga May 6 through May 7.

A U.S.-Baltic summit will be held in Riga on May 7, it will also be attended by the Lithuanian and Estonian presidents.

Seems the first week of May will be crazy here - we have a lot of events in other days too.

What is important - Bush will come to Riga first and to Moscow second. Bush's visit to Riga, before arriving in Moscow on May 9, will contribute to and show support for president's efforts to explain the Baltic countries' history.

That's a good news, I'm glad Bush is showing support to the Baltic nations, just as he did in Autumn 2002 in Vilnius. There was a lot of barking against Bush coming from all sides but after all he seems to be the one who's got some balls (especially regarding Russian imperialistic politics in neighbouring countries) . :eek:kay:

And we hold these truths to be self evident:
1) George W. Bush is not president;
2) America is not a true democracy;
3) The media is not fooling me.
im not too optimistic about bush, frankly i dont like the bloke. He might have good "for us" politics against russia but the way he is dealing with arab nations is quite arrogant imo, but i can learn to like him...

on his first term as president he visited Lithuania
Second term Lativa
Third term? Estonia? :cheers:

Dealing with Arab nations? What you mean here? You think the 911 and all other suicide terrorist attacks were performed by aliens from other galaxies?
Bush's administration is doing a good job in the middle East and it should be even more strict regarding actions against terrorist groups or countries such as Iran or N.Korea.

Btw, there cannot be 3rd term of presidency in USA ;)

I can`t say I`m the one of those Bush admirers. However, it is nice to remember visit of William Jefferson Clinton here in 1994. It was very nice and sunny day in July and Clinton attracted huge crowds (almost no one was talking about his big government or failures during his presidency - he was so popular here back then).

John F Kennedy also spent some time here in 1939 as a student, also RM Nixon. George F Kennan, architect of the Soviet containment strategy, started his career in Riga and Tallinn, and moved to Moscow afterwards.

well, im still looking for the WMD's ... they havent found any, the propaganda prior to attack was awesome, just like we are seeing happening right now - Nukes in Iran? Nukes in Nkorea... really, i havent heard of any Nkorean terrorists, why is USA playing the world police role? No arab nation would be hostile towards USA if they had not supported israel... USA has brought the trouble to himself .. the manifestation of its policies in the middle east was the 911 attacks...

ch1le, good look in looking for WMD's. However it's not about the WMD's, it's about the regimes which are proviking their residents to hate the USA and West in general. WMD's in this particular case was a bad excuse [as such] to attack Iraq but the problem is MUCH deeper than this little issue. Iraq was attacked in order to remove Saddam from power and change the authocratic regime into a more contemporary one. It's about stopping fanatic regimes in countries which are potential threats to their neighbours and world peace in general. Do you imagine what might happen if e.g. Iran or N.Korea would possess nuclear weapons and missiles to carry them? Iraq was the beginning.

About Israel thing. Do you know what would happen is USA wouldn't support Israel? It would be simply blown up by it's "friendly" neighbours. There were many attempts to attack Israel from various countries (Egypt, Syria etc.), even official policies of some Islamic groups declared their main objective... "to destroy the Israel nation" but thanks to USA's support and huge spendings on military Israel managed to fight them back and give a good kick in the ass. Israel is also doing a great job fighting Islamic extremist groups and better it continues this way if you don't want a new Islamic fanatic empire rising up in those lands.

I just had a couple of flags from Bush's visit in 2002 and didn't trow them away, so I had to put them somewhere and monitor seemed to be a good place for this, I'm going to add more flags there if will get any (including Serbian) ;).

Actually it becomes a little annoying as I receive accusations of being too pro-American and too pro-communist at the same moment (since I admire China so much) :| :D
