@Tiltshift: We would be able to help with the identification of the photos if the pictures are bigger. Have you tried imagestation.com? Works for the rest of us here. Or pbase if you're already coughing up $24 for imageshack anyway...

imagestation has a draconian copyright policy. :( imageshack's free and respects my coypright. :) i post those clickable thumbnails so imageshack wouldnt be too burdened with the data load i impose on them. how big of a file do you want? 600x450?

^^ well, think about it this way, within metro manila, no other road has more volume of cars and commuters passing through any given day.

Are there any existing plans in upgrading EDSA?
I think there was the plan to put in those concrete block things to smoothen the roads of EDSA. Cheaper than asphalt paving afaik. I don't know if it's gone through. I haven't been to MM since April 2004. Even if I was there now, I wouldn't be noticing too much of the road really.

I think the improvement of EDSA is one of MMDA's (few) failures. They should pave the whole stretch of EDSA with high grade asphalt. Yes, it is costly, but in the long term it will save money and increase productivity by reducing travel time. MMDA needs to think long term. Going down EDSA is quite an embarrassment coz everybody goes through EDSA - commuters, tourists, etc.

Holiday break allows MMDA to repair EDSA
The Philippine Star 11/01/2005

Taking advantage of the long holiday break, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has started repair and concrete re-blocking work on EDSA.

MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando said the exodus of families to the provinces and the light traffic should give the agency enough time to complete the work on damaged portions of the 24-kilometer thoroughfare.

MMDA Executive Director Angelito Vergel de Dios said work would be concentrated on portions of EDSA in Guadalupe and Buendia in Makati City.

"Chairman Fernando wants to speed up the completion of the re-blocking so that when the people return to Metro Manila, a better and improved EDSA would greet them," he said.

The project will cost the MMDA some P62 million, but Fernando said he doesn’t mind the cost as long as it results in better roads for Metro Manila motorists.

"If we have good roads, we will have smooth traffic. We will also have drivers who will no longer lose their cool over traffic jams," the MMDA chief said. – Michael Punongbayan

notice the spruced up islands along edsa? - namumulaklak na yung mga tanim planted by MMDA. i really like the cadena de amor clinging to the massive concrete posts of MRT. kudos to MMDA for greening EDSA.

I pass through EDSA on a daily basis and seeing the flowers in full bloom on the islands is a sigh of relief (think traffic, rush-hour, etc..)

for me... the cadena de amor on the posts are quite an eye sore... there are parts where the places looked ugly... parang gubat.. the plant is not properly trimmed....

the rehabilitation work being done by MMDA last week has caused very heavy traffic... well I hope after their work.. the roads will be much better.. but the problem is they reconstruct part by part and not as a whole stretch.. the contractors don't usually do their work properly... they may have fixed the broken blocks but usually after that the good blocks of road are damaged in the process of reconstruction...

yeah, planting the Cadena de Amor plants are not enough. they should have them properly maintained, trimmed, and cleaned-off with dead leaves and flowers.
