Phnom Penh in the past look so great! i love
^^^
So great that when PM Lee Kuan Yu has come to see Prince Sihanuk (before 1970), he told Prince Sihanuk that he wished Singapore will look as good as PP ...
^^ but now i wish pp look like singapore. How pp look like in 1960s? Really wanna see the real situation.

Phnom Penh looks peaceful and clean in this video!!
Taken from the movie "Apsara" directed by King Sihanouk in 1965.

Or you can watch the whole movie in color(just continue on youtube):

Some old french colonial buildings in Phnom Penh, it's probably around 1920s-30s (I never saw those buildings before).

Great likes other major cities around Asia!

Here was a master plan of Phnom Penh in 1925!

The red-orange lines were the plan!

Phnom Penh in 1920s, the Pearl of Asia!

No wonder Lee Kuan Yew praised PP back then......nice planned city.

love the city planning :) it makes your city so tidy and beautiful...without the khmer rouge...PP today will be so much ahead of many capitals in SEA...and well...my city too T T
^^ We got nothing to compare against, is really hard to tell.
We need to see the urban design /planning of other SEA countries at the time to know. Are they well developed as well?

If it wasn't the khmer rouge, who will be in charge of urban planning in the last 40 years, and if he/they have what it take to do a good job.

That was in the 60's.

The beauty of Phnom Penh was not really based on the city's plan, but it was the uniqueness of the city's architecture that called "The New Khmer Architecture" that began since the late 50's to 70's.
