Don't really feel we are rich when living in B C. :(
I'm afraid that probably the tally of personal wealth includes our inflated house prices!
weird that they had to use "Median" as statistical basis..

Well, maybe you don't feel rich by Canadian standard, but as an immigrate, your middle class incomes looks like a really wealthy incomes back in my country :D
If you own a house here, you're rich. Even if you took a loan to own a house, you sell it, you'll be rich. Best investment so far for middle class Canadians, i'd say.

Yes for immigrants. And as an immigrant, you should be smart too in handling your money or if you use your investment somewhere else like starting a small coffee shop back home.

Also, there are immigrants who have string attach back home, money remittance is just part of their life to be able to help feed their extended or immediate family left behind. It is a difficult situation if you're a new immigrant, specially in the case of many Filipinos.

strings-attached seems to be the best way to describe it.

Yep, nowadays the prices have gone so high and that was one of my reasons why we sold our first house then downgraded and bought a 50 yr old home, then renovated it. I find it cheaper that way and i think we're staying here for good since our kids are growing up now too, and because we like our neighbourhood.

One step at a time.

I also went through financial difficulties during my first few years as a homeowner. But you'll learn from it and as long as you will not make some big change in your lifestyle, you'll be fine.

YF, i think you wanna consider buying even a small house just for the sake of investment and for your future kids. Unless if your cougars doesnt want you to do. :D

YF, are you having financial difficulties??
Whenever I feel poor and miserable, I compare myself to my older brother in Mexico and realize how rich I am

I'm actually doing fine but in general, living in BC is much more expensive than living in anywhere else in Canada.

YF, have you ever considered moving in Ontario.
I'm actually thinking moving to Montreal when I'm retire. :) So that I can go to see the Habs games.

Pfff Ontario is the good province ;)
But Montreal is cheaper and I love french cougars. :D
When did you become a big Habs fan, YF? I thought you were a Canucks fan? hehe..

You should visit Montreal; it is quite different than Vancouver so good to check it out first before moving.
Have you considered moving back to the Prairies? You loved it there..
