The recently concluded deal is an extension of an existing contract to keep the stadium as the clubs home ground for the next three seasons.
Talks with the Rugby Union are on going, and various other events have been held and are planned. This includes a One Direction concert.

Cape Town is First to Seek Damages for Tender Rigging

After 2010, the World Cup contractors were proven to rig tenders and inflate the prices of many projects. Now Cape Town is the first city to seek compensation. The city hopes to recover ZAR 400 million from the Murray & Roberts and Wilson Bayley Holmes-Ovcon (WBHO) joint venture, contractors of the Cape Town Stadium.

100,000+ Ticket Demand for Green Point Stadium?

The two-day Rugby Sevens World Series event in South Africa moves to Cape Town from Port Elizabeth. This means possibly well over 100,000 tickets to be sold at the Cape Town stadium, which desperately needs events.

The South African Rugby Union confirmed last Friday (March 20) that the South African leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series will be moving to Cape Town for the next four years. The event was previously held in Port Elizabeth in recent years, where it nearly sold out on both days.

According to StadiumDB.com, there was apparently a proposal to convert the Cape Town World Cup Stadium into a sewage treatment plant, of all things. The proposal was raised by two large organisations who demand better sewage service in Cape Town (Afriforum and GCTCA). This would be considered the second most-radical proposal after simply demolishing the stadium.

Laws currently restricting commercial activity at the stadium are about to be cancelled- this will allow the grounds to generate a regular income.

Also:
For the next four years, the stadium will host the South African leg of the Rugby Sevens, an international rugby tournament.
At a major announcement in the French capital, World Rugby confirmed the Cape Town dates in a schedule featuring iconic locations which now also includes Sydney, Paris, Singapore and Vancouver as other new venues on the circuit.

A new idea to have the Cape Town Stadium generate some extra revenue: Convert a nearby parking site into a commercial area.

In its internal evaluation‚ the City of Cape Town said the market rental value of this property‚ comprising a gravelled parking area site of 7‚385 square-meter in size‚ was estimated to be either an upfront payment of R100 million ($6.4m) or a monthly rental of R750‚000 ($48,000).

This rental is valid for a proposed lease term of 25 years‚ with an escalation of 8% per annum.

It is expected to be developed to provide a medium-rise complex of buildings incorporating parking‚ ground-floor retail and commercial components.

Entity set up to find brand name for Cape Town Stadium

The R4billion Cape Town Stadium is set to get a new name in a bid to make it more economically viable.

The venue built for the 2010 Fifa World Cup is looking for bidders who want to attach their names to the stadium - rated as one of the world’s best playing facilities.

But before new name boards will be hoisted, the City of Cape Town wants to appoint a company to conduct an auction for naming rights.

Mayoral committee member for assets and facilities, Stuart Diamond said the City is in the process of establishing a private company (a municipal entity).

Western Province Rugby is moving to Cape Town Stadium from February 2021.

The deal with the City of Cape Town, which owns the 60,000-seat stadium built for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, will make the WP Rugby the anchor tenant for up to 99 years.

More suites will be constructed at the stadium as part of the deal, announced on Friday by WP Rugby CEO Paul Zacks and deputy mayor Ian Neilson.

A decade after its opening, the beautiful Cape Town Stadium is still deep in the red.To increase its potential, 162 new luxury boxes will be added to the stadium. Right now, it only has 78. The future total of luxury boxes (240) will be more than Soccer City in Johannesburg (195). This work will be done in February 2021.

Also, some available floor space will be reorganized to create 3,500 sq m of commercial and retail space. These structural changes will cost US$16 million. It is also reported that three companies are interested in a potential naming-rights deal for the Cape Town Stadium.

But still, even with the above upgrades, the stadium is unlikely to become financially independent in the coming years.

I think it's hard to determine at this point where all of those extra luxury boxes are going to be fitted in the Cape Town Stadium. I mean, there's one ring of skyboxes between its middle and top tiers.
