It's wierd, but I like it. Victoria and Bealey nearly completed.

It will consist of 3 buildings, the middle one (your photograph) features pre-cast echoes of the former building that stood there and the other two buildings are modern additions

Blimey mate. That was quick. With your explanation now it makes more sense, its a few yards from the corner so the additional wings on either side will help tie it in to its location.

And btw, between you and me, thanks for your contribution to these threads. Also Im off to get the Architecture NZ mag you mentioned.
CARLTON CORNER | 4 Floors

This was probably the first of the new builds to break ground. And its certainly one of the most interesting.

On the very edge of the cbd on the corner of Victoria and Bealey. And once again thanks for Sydney for doing the groundwork locating info on this one...

First phase complete, rebranded the Carlton Butchery in remembrance of original building. The northern end is vacant and currently houses a makeshift bar -'Smash Palace', work is just commencing on the southern extension.

November 2012

Stage two taking shape!

I effin love this building. Not sure exactly why, whether its the fact it was the first project to get underway, or that it looks unlike anything else.

I dont think my photos do this one justice.

As an aside had dinner at Saggio's the other night. Looking uber chic inside.

Stage 2 nearing completion. And the lighting of this building looks great at night. You just have to take my word for it.

Lookin good! did you happen to notice if construction has started on the corner site across the street next to Carlton butchery?
The eyesore that s Smash Palace is being relocated to High Street. Clearing the way for the construction of the third building to begin.

Thank god. It was supposed to leave in 2016 but god has had mercy on us. Great pictures by the way!
^^ Cheers man.

The main quake was over 4 years ago. It was cool at first to go to bar consisting only of a few tarpaulins, formica tables and some staffolding. Now it's 2015 it just looks tardy.

I'm way past the novelty of having a beer in the middle of a warzone. And I'm assuming so are most others.
Smash Palace gone, expecting work on the final stage to get underway soon.

Will be interesting if the building that will eventually goes there will look anything like the old one. Hard to believe that design is 3 years old now.
