Do you guys know something about the Carter Hotel, on 43rd st? I am searching for good rates online and the Carter seems to be cheap? Would any of you know anything about that place, if it's Ok? Perhaps any of you have taken pictures of the place. Thanks!

Actually this was my hotel the first time I visited NYC some 17 years ago, and it distinguished itself for having me found two used rubbers, one under the bed and one on the balcony.
lol - I hope KOKOLOGIST didn't book yet. I bet there must be tons of frightening stories to tell about this place.

They make it look OK at the website:

about this travel inn.. what were the rates like? (per night)
WTF!

I researched a bit on google and came across some pretty interesting info about the Carter. Apparently, in the 1920's and 1930s, the hotel's basement was the main bus terminal in NYC. The carter was know as the Dixie Hotel and the bus terminal as the Dixie Bus Terminal. Eventually, the terminal got replaced with the Port Authority Bus terminal :eek2:

Diagram of the terminal, which is used as the hotel's underground parking today...

thats amazing, lol!
Lol, when we searched for hotels, we came across Hotel Carter. Type in "hotel carter" bad in google, or find it at tripadvisor.com, and you have loads of funny read:D We settled for Portland Square Hotel. I'll try to remember to write here about it when I come back.
Looks as bad as the Alladin Hotel, which I think was on 45th. We eventually moved to the Travel Inn, which is a nice place for the price.
we stayed at hotel carter. The beds were very comfortable, we only had some problems with adjusting the shower to the right temperature, the water was sometimes burning hot. But I heard that some people had bad experience with Carter.

I also heard that a couple of years ago someone was murdered in Hotel Carter. But i don't know if this is true.
