The fastest growing residential and business hub in Cape Town deserves its own thread. By June 2010 it will be served by the new rail station to the south and IRT system to the north.

IRT route to the top, Rail Station to the south.

Some questions:

I've never seen any passenger trains on that line where they're planning to add the Sable Way station. It's not on any of the Metro passenger rail maps I've seen & it looks like it ends somewhere around the container docks with no other stations on the way. Are they going to running trains in both directions from that station? And if that is the case, then are they planning to add any more stations? Or extending/linking the line to the Waterfront?

Its just a possibility but nothing planned or proposed.
I guess this is the area they have in mind for the Sable Road station:

First look at Century City station

Risking extreme injury along the narrow shoulder of the Sable Road off-ramp, I bring you the first pics of the new Century City station.

Ok, now it's Mo's turn to find even better pictures and post them (as usual). Don't let us down Mo!

I bow down to you.
thanks!
Jeez, this city don't play around no more! I'm so happy we have the public sector we do... a long time needed and very welcome. Thanks for the updates.
It forms the first connection between Wingfield and Century City.
Green bridges here we come!
That's the spirit Nixon, thank you very much.
The Century City Station pedestrian link over the N1!

why wouldent the transport interchange not be in close proximity or part of the mall as apposed to other side of century way?

Also with Cape Towns incliment weather in Winter, Why is the pedestrianised connection between Station and mall not covered at least?

Prob budgetary issues. This station was planned many years ago and its easier to add a station here than on the other line near Ratanga which I assume is not in use. This station also provides a crucial link to the suburbs on the other side of the N1.
the station location makes sense (apart from not covering the N1 walkway) but then the transport interchange should be much closer and not on the other side of the precinct.

i think its about killing two birds with one stone. a train station for workers and a link to century city for those across the N1.

The IRT system will also be linked to Century City.
It's not clear if this is a separate structure or just some shielding added to the existing road bridge? The map from above seems to indicate that the pedestrian link is part of the existing road bridge. I'm also disappointed that it's uncovered.
I think having it on the other side of the N1 would allow more people to make use of it, as I'm sure not everyone wants to go into Century City and honestly the walk isn't bad at all...Century City is designed to allow people to walk from A to B and that's what I do a lot.

It does inconvenience shoppers, but alas shoppers aren't the only people who will make use of it.
Station will cost R60 million.
Looks like more than just a station. Is that a road I see towards those houses?
