L&T MBDA Missile Systems sets up Missile Integration facility at Coimbatore

L&T MBDA Missile Systems (LTMMSL), a joint venture between Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and MBDA, a world leader in missile systems, has set up a Missile (inert*) Integration facility.
With an eye on domestic and global markets, LTMMSL has set up the assembly, inert integration (without explosives) and testing facility for Missile Sub-systems and Missile Weapon Launch Systems spread across an area of 16,000 sq. meter in a Special Economic Zone at Coimbatore. It forms a part of the Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor.

Founded in 2017, LTMMSL has received a few export orders and the new facility shall start delivering sophisticated weapon systems using state-of-the-art test equipment such as Missile Launchers and Airframe segments, including control actuation units, from CY 2020.

LTMMSL will build complete Missile Systems for the Indian Armed Forces exploring prospects under the Buy (Indian - IDDM), Buy (Indian), and Buy & Make (Indian) categories for Defence Procurement.

L&T owns 51% stake in LTMMSL and MBDA owns 49%, thus fully complying with India's Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy.

*'Inert' refers to systems integration process without explosive component of the missile systems being handled at the facility.

I think this unit is coming up in Aspen SEZ Karumathampatti
OOPS, I thought they kept their promises:

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/coimbatore/lt-to-set-up-rs-500-cr-facility-to-make-rocket-motors-for-isro/articleshow/64240405.cms

COIMBATORE: Larsen and Toubro (L&T) is all set to expand its defence component manufacturing facility in the district and set up an exclusive factory on its Malumichampatti campus to manufacture rocket motors for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The total investment on current facility is Rs 500 crore and the company is planning to invest an additional Rs 100 crore for the new project.

J D Patil, director, defence, L&T, said the factory would be ready within this financial year. “We have produced motors for Akash, which is an all-weather medium range surface-to-air missile system indigenously developed in India. Now, we plan to set up this factory to exclusively manufacture for ISRO. Their rocket motors are different from Akash, as the diameter is 2.8m and 3.2m and are massive. We will produce at least 10-12 sets a year which equals to nearly 50 sections of the motors,” he said.

According to Patil, the industry and the ecosystem here were good enough to produce precision equipment. “Earlier, we were only able to produce at our facility at Powai in Mumbai that was set up in 1940. Slowly, that entire unit will be shifted to Coimbatore. Even various orders from Baroda facility will be shifted to the district. We are going to take the number of factories to five here,” he said.

Patil said they would manufacture various components of satellites such as heat shields and other components that form the basic structural part of a satellite. “Currently, we are manufacturing these components in Baroda and we will shift all this to Coimbatore,” he added.

L&T would also produce space air frames for Brahmos Missile.

S Christopher, chairman, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said they were working on unmanned aircraft project and various other missile programmes. About their association with ISRO, he said they were working together on a project named Kautilya. “We are also using the profit from the Brahmos programme to run an extended range programme,” he said.

About their production, he said, they had so far catered to the requirements of Air Force. “Army also has further requirement of Akash, however in 0.5 version. DRDO has already taken up the development. All these will be taken up from 2021 onwards. This product will have orders in another 3-4 years. The facility at Coimbatore will support us,” Christopher said.

After the central government’s Make in India drive to ‘Indianis’e all products, he said, the growth had gone up in the past 50 years by 60%. “Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are localised facilities and not integrated facilities. Corridors will help various individual MSMEs with their special expertise. Defence wants precision products and quality is very important. They can help in producing small fabrications and various components that can be integrated. Also, the government needs to invest to set up integrated defence manufacturing facilities,” Christopher said.

Sarathy, appreciate all the updates but why bifurcate Coimbatore into areawise threads?

Yes, Its high-time to have area-wide threads. Even I thought about it.

Lets take it to Kongu Arattai Mandram thread and finalize it there. Since the city is expanding, we all will work together to finalize the list properly.

Already I urged to create a Kovai metro thread, since we were missing many good updates about the metro. But later on I came to know that it was already created somewhere in Indian Metro sub-pages (Like Airport page), but the admins missed to create a sticky page to our Coimbatore Forum, which resulted in some manual work for Admins in merging both the threads. So to avoid such problems, we will finalize the list, post to Mr.Arul Murugan and after his confirmation we will create them all in one shot. Hope its a good idea (?!?) See you in Kongu Arattai Thread.

Fifth corridor of metro rail to connect Vellalore & Ukkadam

https://m.timesofindia.com/city/coimbatore/fifth-corridor-of-metro-rail-to-connect-vellalore-ukkadam/amp_articleshow/74181408.cms

Coimbatore: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), which conducted a feasibility study for the Coimbatore metro rail project, has decided to create a fifth corridor to connect Vellalore and Ukkadam. It has also identified two places, at Press Colony near Periyanaickenpalayam and Chinniyampalayam,

to station the trains.
CMRL had selected engineering and consulting firm Systra to conduct feasibility study for implementing the project in the city. The feasibility report suggested four corridors. The first corridor would be 26-kilometre long between Ukkadam and Kaniyur. The second would cover 24 kilometres between Ukkadam and Bilichi near Karamadai on the Mettupalayam Road. The third corridor will cover 42 kilometres between Thanneerpandal on Thadagam Road and Karanampettai on Trichy Road and the fourth will cover 44 kilometres between Karunya Nagar and Ganeshapuram.

Now, CMRL has decided to create a fifth corridor, which will be 11 kilometres long, to connect the integrated bus stand to be constructed at Vellalore at an estimated cost of 178.26 crore, to Ukkadam. “After shifting the bus stand to Vellalore, metro train service from Vellalore to Ukkadam would help commuters reach the city easily,” an official said.

CMRL has identified a plot at Press Colony that belongs to the Union government to station metro trains, apart from a place at Chinniyampalayam. “After getting financial sanction for land acquisition, the revenue department will help CMRL acquire the lands to station the trains,” the official added.

The private firm had submitted details of the development work to be implemented in the city for the metro project to the district administration and the city corporation last November.
