I guess a new incumbent could reverse some of the BE's worst decisions without losing face. Maybe TPE will get full wiring after all!!

Grayling I think will go down as probably the worst SoS for Transport this century.. McLoughlin was far better, although the GWML electrification farce took place on his watch, so he wasn't perfect.

I raise you and offer Alistair Darling.

and my main complaint of Darling was his non existent support to the provincial cities when he pulled the tram lines.

No problem with them being pulled due to cost increases, huge problem he did f* all to stop the cost increases and offer alternative funding options as became available much later.

Sacked, he should be under caution whilst the fraud involving the east coast mainline is investigated.
Indeed. Happy Adonis stuck the knife into him. How long before the NAO review?

Grayling is an idiot. I'd be perfectly happy to see him go.

I won't be sorry to see the back of him, as he's hardly fit for cleaning public toilets, but there will be little point in changing the face in the DfT without changing the policies as well. What we want is no more spending five years promising things like Midland Mainline electrification, then scrapping it. No more shafting of areas outside the South East. We want full on electrification of our lines up North and in the South West and no hybrids and no bullshitting. No wonder people up North are frustrated, but the frustrating thing about their frustrations is that they're taking it out on the wrong people.

A thumbs up for Scott Darwin there. Darling was indeed too much of a Scrooge. He did delay then scrap tram systems in places like Leeds, Liverpool, Bristol and Portsmouth, which is a huge black mark against him.

What you can say in Darling's defence is that he applied a consistent standard (hatred of all spending all the time) to his decisions, Grayling appears to just do whatever random thing comes to mind at the time (more money, less money, no money, IT).

Multiple reports of Grayling to Tory Chairman.

Guess we won't find out who takes his jobs until late afternoon.

Ministers appointed tomorrow, be good for someone to be brought in to manage HS2, NPR etc. at a ministerial level.
