Cicero, Illinois
Cicero is an incorporated town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 85,616 at the 2000 census. A 2003 Census estimate showed the population dipped to 83,029. Cicero is named for the town of Cicero, New York, which in turn was named for Marcus Tullius Cicero, the Roman orator.

Originally, Cicero Township occupied six times its current territory. Weak political leadership and town services resulted in cities such as Oak Park and Berwyn voting to split off from Cicero, and other portions such as Austin were annexed into the city of Chicago

Haven't you ever seen the banners in Cicero claiming to be the "original" birthplace of Ernest Hemingway? Of course, the house is now in Oak Park.

Here's a map you might find interesting: http://encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/3716.html
No...I hail from the north....only made it to Oak Park for a field trip in high school. Remember, Chicagoland is a big little country. I wonder if Cicero had maintained its stature, would Capone's fate had turned out the same. A mega-Cicero may have protected its most profitable citizen better.

I am glad that the Chicago portions were annexed to Chicago but it would have been cool if Cicero, Oak Park and Berwyn were all one municipality, that way it would be the largest suburb and an urban suburb at that.
The Illinois State Archives have township maps for every county(Cook County). Also pictures of each county courthouse(s).
wow thats alot of people, my poor little town is slapped against 87th and cicero on the southside called hometown, its only got about 2-3,000 ppl parked in a mile wide and a mile long area..weak isnt it? most ppl dont even know hometown exists
What is a Cicero?
It's one-sixth of a French inch, or about 4.5 millimeters.
