I thought I'd make a thread for my pictures of the thriving metropolises and the vast landscapes that make up this wonderfully diverse country.

For a little background, I'm from the southern city of Chennai and am currently based in the western city of Ahmedabad. I hope to keep adding to the thread whenever I take more pics.

Mumbai

Where better to start than with India's financial capital and dream city, Mumbai? Situated on an island protruding into the Arabian Sea, Mumbai attracts migrants from all over the country and also a fair few from abroad. Diverse and cosmopolitan, over 20 million live within the greater Mumbai metropolitan region, making this one of the world's largest cities.

Mumbai with its ever-rising skyline and huge amounts of wealth (poverty too) is seen as a city of dreams by people across India. Personally I find Mumbai to be one of the most fascinating cities in the world and I'm highly optimistic about its future.

Fort

The historic district of Fort is home to some of the grandest examples of Colonial architecture and forms part of the CBD of the city.

The Bombay Stock Exchange building towers over the British era buildings. Below are barricades for the city's new under-construction metro line.

Colaba
Colaba on the southern tip of the island is a happening area filled with trendy cafes, bars and a lot of shopping. It is also home to some of the city's icons.

Great thread, architecture and pictures. We've planned a trip to Mumbai later this year, but for several reasons changed that to Delhi and Rajasthan. I hope we are not gonna regret that, because Mumbai looks stunning!

While I hope you return to India to see Mumbai, I don't think you will regret a trip to Delhi and Rajasthan. Delhi is a fantastic city and Rajasthan is nothing short of magical.

"To most Indians, Mumbai's heterodoxy is most visible in the hundreds of films that are produced in the city's studios every year. For one thing, the silver screen projections of Mumbai's very geography, with tall buildings and the stunning seaside Marine Drive promenade, emphasize how different it is from other Indian cities. More importantly, the plotlines have always made it clear that Mumbai's residents are very special people.... anyone can make their wishes come true, if only they work hard at it."

- Naresh Fernandes in Bombay then, Mumbai now

Marine Drive is a C-shaped promenade hugging the western coastline of the city and connecting Nariman Point - a prime business district and one of the last major reclamations from the sea - with Malabar Hill, home to some of the city's richest folks. Marine Drive, however is anything but exclusive. It is open to every Mumbaikar and an evening here could make you forget how hard life in this city can be.

Bandra

Referred to as the queen of the suburbs, Bandra is home to many Bollywood celebrities and is a particularly interesting neighbourhood to explore with winding hilly streets, old churches and sea views.
