The Western Cape is most likely the "oddest" part of Sub-Saharan Africa. With no matching climate, vegetation, agricultural or cultural zone somewhat similar to it for over 7000km.

The climate, being Mediterranean to Maritime West Coast, with interior regions Semi-Arid, has more in common with Spain, southern France and California. One entire floral kingdom, of the world's 7, is located almost exclusively within this southernmost province of South Africa. It is primarily a wine-growing and deciduous fruit growing region. The culture is a mix of mostly Dutch, English, French and Malay origin, with the colourful culture of the endemic Cape Coloured (DO NOT mistaken with American pre-civil-rights version of this term). Only in recent history, has traditional African culture become evident, with migration from the north.

With this in mind, and with the approaching 2010 FIFA World Cup, it would be cool to have a showcase of all that is rural, to true urban in this province. After all, many cities look the same in the globalised world, the smaller towns show the true culture, flavour and heritage of a region...

ENJOY... I hope! :)

Knysna - A Very Special Town (showcase)

We've already had a couple pictures of Knysna (450km east of Cape Town), but this town warrants some extra attention. One of the most beautiful human settlements (in my opinion) in the world...
Contains a couple suburbs and is quite spread out around the Knysna Lagoon area, including Knysna-town, Thesen Island, Concordia, Welbedaght, Simola, Pezula, The Heads, Noetzie, Belvidere, Brenton, Leisure Isle, Hunters Home, Hornlee
