Coimbatore Metro ?

Any idea of the status of CBE metro, at last CMRL was said to be preparing a report. I don't think the CMRL is taking this project seriously, unless we have a seperate metro rail company for CBE, we can't expect things to progress..

Looks like for Avinashi road elevated road , HD is also waiting for approval from CMRL to give a go or no-go based on thier plans to take up Avinashi road in phase 1 metro project. I hope the metro will take this seriously and give propose Thier plan too..

Coimbatore airport registers 27.29 % growth in passenger traffic

Despite constraints, especially owing to its expansion not taking off, the Coimbatore International Airport registered 27.29 % growth in terms of passengers traffic (domestic and international) in 2018 compared to the previous year.

According to Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials, the airport saw 29,12,338 passengers in 2018, which was 6,24,376 passengers more than that of the previous year.

Airport Director R. Mahalingam said that the domestic passenger movement had added to the growth than the international passenger volume that was less.

“Five base flights are currently operating from Coimbatore airport boosting the domestic passenger traffic. The growth in international passenger movement is seasonal,” he said.

In December 2018, the airport crossed the 2,50,000 mark in domestic passenger movement in a month for the first time.

According to Mr. Mahalingam, a new building will come up between the existing terminal and cargo section. “The works for the new building are in the planning stage. This will be dedicated for the domestic flights. The existing terminal will serve both international and domestic flights,” said Mr. Mahalingam.

The new building, ground and first floor, will be constructed on 15,000 sq.m. The canopy from the existing terminal will be extended for 70 m. for the new building.

Aerobridges
Mr. Mahalingam said that two more aerobridges would be added soon to the existing two.

“The process of commissioning the two new aerobridges is currently under way. They will be commissioned after getting approval from the Director General of Civil Aviation. Once they become functional, the existing bridges will be replaced with two new ones,” he added.

KSRTC to operate 15 bus services to Tamilnadu

KSRTC to operate 15 bus services to Tamilnadu^^^

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala state road transport corporation (KSRTC) will operate new interstate bus services to various destinations in Tamil Nadu. The services will be operated based on interstate contract with the neighbouring state.

KSRTC proposes to operate four bus services to Coimbatore from various depots in the state. Two bus services from Kannur to Coimbatore via Walayar; one service from Mananthavady to Coimbatore via Kalpetta, Ooty and Mettupalayam; one service from Sultan Bathery to Coimbatore via Ooty and Mettupalayam are the planned routes for the new services.

The interstate services also focus on pilgrim destinations such as Palani and Velankanni. Two bus services from Kottayam to Palani via Kumily and Theni, two bus services from Ernakulam to Palani via Munnar and Udumalpet and two buses from Arthunkal to Velankanni via Coimbatore, Karur, Tiruchi and Thanjavur will be operated by KSRTC.

One bus service from Thrissur to Ooty via Walayar and four bus services from Kozhikode to Gudalur via Nilambur are other schedules proposed by KSRTC.
In a memorandum issued by executive director of operations, KSRTC unit officers have been directed to submit a proposal for time schedule for these buses to KSRTC executive directive operation through zonal officers before Monday. Due to unavailability of sufficient number of KSRTC buses to Tamil Nadu, people are largely depending on private buses.

City loses direct flights to Dubai as govt denies entry to foreign airlines

At least three major foreign airlines have approached the aviation ministry to operate flights to Dubai and Kuala Lumpur from the city, sources in the ministry said.

However, they have not been permitted because the ministry reportedly wants to offer these slots to Indian carriers. With Indian carriers preferring to capitalize on time tested routes, Coimbatorians may have to wait to get direct connectivity to these cities.

A senior official in the ministry told TOI that foreign airlines like Air Asia, Fly Dubai and even Emirates have approached the aviation ministry for permission to operate flights out of Coimbatore. “While Fly Dubai and Emirates has expressed interest to operate flights to Dubai, Air Asia has expressed interest to operate flights to Kuala Lumpur,” said the official. “However, the ministry has not granted the request stating that we rather provide the opportunity to Indian carriers—private or public. We believe that allowing foreign airlines to operate new routes will bar Indian airlines from entering the market,” he explained.

However, with Indian carriers preferring to concentrate on metro cities and tried and tested routes, industrialists feel that it is finally Coimbatorians who are missing out on direct flights to more destinations. “None of the private Indian carriers are concentrating on Coimbatore as they are filling the more lucrative slots and routes. Finally, despite being a business and education hub, Coimbatore is losing out on international connectivity,” D Nandakumar, a dealer in pumpsets and electricals, said. “More than nine years after the airport got international status, we have only three foreign airlines and flying only to three destinations,” he said.

Direct connectivity to Dubai has been a long pending demand among industrialists, educationists and even the healthcare community in the city as it will give them better connectivity to Europe and the United States.

:bash::bash::bash: This Sucks! We spend a lot of time and money traveling from Cochin, Banglore, and Chennai. Coimbatore industrialist associations should pressurize the MPs and Aviation ministry. :eek:hno: It will also ease the traffic in those highways. It will benefit people from whole Kongu region.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu minister for municipal administration and rural development S P Velumani has urged the Centre to reconsider the expansion of Coimbatore airport to keep the business growth of the area.
The state government acquired 627.89 acres of land for the expansion of the airport. The land was acquired under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Acquisition of Land for Industrial Purposes Act 1997 in 2017.

However, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) sought only 365 acres for extension of runaway at the airport. Following this, Velumani had urged the AAI authorities to reconsider its plan, but in vain.
On Tuesday, Velumani, submitted a memorandum in this regard to Union railway minister Piyush Goyal. He requested the AAI for revision of area to be acquired from 627.89 to 365 acres for extension of runaway at the airport. The minister stated that it “may be reconsidered and the present process for acquiring 627.89 acres may be allowed to be continued towards completion of the extension of the airport in the interest of the business growth of the area under the ministry of civil aviation.”

He urged the railway ministry to reintroduce first class (non-A/C) coach in Cheran and Nilgiris Express trains, which was in use for several years, to benefit the public. The facility was withdrawn during the Congress regime
He said the railways land at Madukkarai railway station in Coimbatore district at a length of 100 metre had been closed for public and vehicle movement, and if it is opened for the public, it will reduce the hardship of the public to take a circuitous route of 3 km to reach the station.

It should be Hardeep S Puri (Aviation Minister) SPV requested.
