Lol they are just doing it because of this swachh ranking ..
Otherwise Cbe corporation is no better than any panchayat boards (some panchayats are better infact)

I think Trichy, Erode are far better in keeping up the city clean
The good news first: Finally, they seem to be have figured out that they have to remove the sand/mud/debris accumulating along the edges of the roadways and medians.

Now the bad:
They are using the primitive method of collecting the accumulated soil/sand/debris manually, literally by hand using that "chatti". Idiots, what happened to all those mechanized road cleaning machines they purchased years ago. Yep, I know, they have literally been eaten up by poor maintenance and probably sold off for scrap and the officials probably pocketed the money.

meanwhile, hundreds of road users (mainly 2 - wheelers) were maimed and killed by this. Not to mention the fact, this makes the entire city, dusty and when the rains come causes flooding. F**king incompetent and corrupt idiots.

Ooty : With focus on eliminating plastics, this tourist town, Queen of Hill Station in Tamil Nadu Monday received five Reverse Vending Machines (RVM) to collect and recycle PET bottle, which is the highest recycled plastic type in India.Speaking at the inauguration of the machines at Central Bus Stand here, the district collector, J. Innocent Divya said that the current linear economic approach of ‘take-make-dispose (litter)’ is proving to be inefficient and adversely affecting the environmental health of India. The aim is to ensure the collection and recycling of every last plastic bottle consumed in Udhgamandalam (Ooty), be it a water/juice/oil/personal care/home care product. Increased awareness about plastic recycling amongst the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators will also help to tap a new revenue stream and generate new job opportunities for our nation, she said. The depositor will be rewarded a cashback PayTM coupon for every plastic bottle deposited and the machines can shred and store up to 1,500 plastic bottles, which will later be transported to the re-cyclers based in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The recyclers will turn these bottles into flakes/granules to prepare textile thread to produce T-shirts, athletic shoes, luggage, upholstery and sweaters; fiberfill for sleeping bags and winter coats; industrial strapping, sheet and film; automotive parts, such as luggage racks, headliners, fuse boxes, bumpers, grilles, door panels etc.The initiative will further reduce the plastic waste from the picturesque hills of Nilgiris, which already banned use of single use plastics long ago, she said.To address the issue of environmental degradation, it is crucial to make the citizens aware about proper disposal and recycling of plastic waste In our current practices, we litter highly recyclable plastic packaging materials like PET bottles post usage, which can be traded since it attracts a high recycling value. Biocrux CEO, the manufacturers of RVM Ajay Mishra said.A person can earn between Rs.25 to Rs 35 per Kg of PET bottles he said.

Issues that were pointed out 15 years ago in this forum are being solved now. A non-responsive and non-accountable democracy is a curse upon people. These tactics are what kept the people poor, fearful, non-innovative, backwards for 70+ years since independence and made India a bankrupt, pariah nation. People now need to crack the whip and hold these politicians and bureaucrats fully accountable. I am glad that India finally has a central government that is very strict in implementing laws. If only we had governments like this 50 years ago, India would have been such a different place now. What a shame that we have lost entire generations to poverty and backwardness.

Corporation to buy 57 vehicles for garbage mini trucks

Corporation to buy 57 vehicles for garbage mini trucks

COIMBATORE: The city corporation has obtained permission to purchase 57 mini trucks for door-to-door garbage collection.

“The corporation is using 50 vehicles and will procure 102 more under the smart city mission. Now, we have obtained permission to procure 57 Tata Ace vehicles,” corporation commissioner J Sravan Kumar said. “We shall have 209 vehicles within six months. To cater to the needs of the city, we might require at least 500 to 600 such vehicles.”

While a pushcart used for door-to-door garbage collection can cover only 200 houses a day, a vehicle could cover up to 1,000 houses. “Vehicles are five times effective than the pushcarts,” Kumar said.

While three workers are needed to operate a pushcart, a vehicle requires only a driver and a helper. “Thus, we can deploy the resources for other work,” the official said.

To avoid mixing of waste, the corporation is planning to use green vehicles to collect wet waste and blue vehicles to collect dry waste, said a corporation source. While green vehicles will visit the houses daily, the blue ones will visit twice a week. The corporation will monitor the movement of the vehicles to ensure that garbage is collected from households and wet waste is disposed at the nearest micro composting centre (MCC).

Four MCCs, including one at Kavundampalayam, have started working and seven more centres will be operational within a week, the commissioner added.

100 Swachh cities: Chennai up; Trichy & Erode slip

100 Swachh cities: Chennai up; Trichy & Erode slip

CHENNAI: , which copped flak for its poor performance in the rankings, hasn’t done well even in the list, which were released by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs on Saturday.

Only four cities are in the top 100 with and slipping from the previous positions of 6 and 42 to 13 and 51. Chennai has climbed to 100 from last year’s 235, while Coimbatore remains at 16, the same it achieved last year.

Of the 4,041 cities whose progress during the January-December 2017 period was assessed, Indore has been ranked the cleanest, followed by Bhopal and Chandigarh, while all the Tamil Nadu cities assessed were in the category of 485 cities with a population of 10 lakh and above.

The major criteria for the ranking was documentation of progress, direct observation and citizen feedback. Other components involved collection and transportation of waste, sanitation, open defecation free, information, education, communication and behaviour change, capacity building, innovation and processing and disposal.

The state has been ranked 13th among 31, but has fared poorly in direct observation and citizen feedback. Indore, Bhopal and Chandigarh have scored above 1100 in all three categories.

Cities like Trichy and Erode which scored high in direct observation and citizen feedback fare poorly with regard to documenting their work as per the requirements. “Setting up a system of documentation was a vital part of the process as the government wanted us to weigh the waste generated every day and document the entire process including bills for compost sold. Even vehicle routes need to be mapped and details of garbage collection should be specified,” said a solid waste management consultant, Suresh Bhandari.

The Trichy corporation has sought details of the parameters framed to find out where it lagged, while officials of the Coimbatore corporation said they were happy with their ranking. “We managed to score 1219 in documentation even above Chandigarh that is ranked third. While the top three cities have consultant firms working for documentation, here, NGOs and officials did it together. So we are happy,” said a senior corporation official.

Sbm urban – citizen feedback portal, SS2020 vote for your city app, 1969 ivrs no call, outbouncing calls, swatchhata

Swachh Sarvekshan 2021: Coimbatore emerges as the 46th cleanest city

The government of India has ranked Coimbatore as the 46th cleanest city in the annual Swachh Sarvekshan report for 2021. It had ranked Coimbatore at the 40th place in the 2020 report.

Sources said Coimbatore’s journey in the Government’s annual ranking of cities on various aspects of cleanliness was one of steady decline. Starting from the 18th rank in 2016, Coimbatore moved to 16 in 2017, remained at the same spot in the next year’s survey and went down to the 40th spot in 2019.

It held the position in the last year’s survey and this year it slipped further to the 46th place, reflecting the steps the Coimbatore Corporation had taken over the years.

The current ranking had come as a wake up call for the city managers at the Corporation, who would do well to compare their performance vis-à-vis Indore in Madhya Pradesh. When the Government had ranked Indore in the first place in 2017, Coimbatore stood at 16.

While Indore held on to its position, Coimbatore had steadfastly slipped from one rank to another.

The city had the necessary workers, push carts, auto rickshaws, bins, micro compost centres, transit stations and a dump yard to improve its ranking but the Corporation did very little with those to improve waste collection.

There was not a ward of the 100 where the Corporation had successfully implemented 100 door-to-door collection of waste, the sources said and added that if only the Corporation went about the waste collection exercise earnestly, it would gained more ranks to put the city within the first 10 cleanest cities in the country.

Of the three parts or stages in the waste collection exercise – first, involving the public whose responsibility was to hand over segregated waste, the second involving the Corporation and the third involving the waste plant operator in Vellalore – the Corporation could focus on its role by improving collection and transportation.

The sources said the Corporation by efficiently deploying the auto rickshaws it had bought for collecting and transporting waste could ensure almost 100% door-to-door waste collection in at least two of the five zones in the city.

If it did so, it could redeploy the resources in those two zones to other zones. The result of such an exercise could over-all improvement in waste collection in at least three or four of the five zones, the sources explained.
