New Medical College Opened

Coimbatore : The long-awaited KMCH Institute of Health Sciences and Research, the 5th medical college in the region, was inaugurated here Thursday .

Consequent to the approval of Board of Governors of the Medical Council of India (MCI), the college was started with an intake of 150 MBBS students with affiliation to Dr.MGR Medical University.

The first batch of MBBS degree course began with Dr. R V Ramani, member MCI Board of Governors, inaugurating the college, with 21 departments.

The KMCH Group Chairman Dr Nalla G Palanisamy expressed hope that the college would produce competent healthcare professionals who would set new standards in healthcare delivery.

The College would focus on cutting edge research in the frontiers of medical science, he said.

Dr Ramani spoke about the three parameters that ensure best education for medical students: best infrastructure, faculty and management.He advised the students to develop and master the art of communication. besides imbibing patience, perseverance, humility and simplicity.

Coimbatore : Amrita business school finds place in UN Sulitest report

Coimbatore : The Amrita School of Business here has earned the distinction of being the only Indian institution to find a place in the prestigious United Nations Sustainable Literacy Test (Sulitest) which evaluates knowledge about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among students in higher education.

The High-level Political Forum (HLPF) at UN released the 2019 annual report from Sulitest, during its annual follow-up and review of 2030 agenda for sustainability. Under Higher Education Sustainability Initiative HESI Sulitest was recognised in 2016 as one of the first featured initiatives of the UN Partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals and contributed to the second UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report in 2017.

Sulitest became a contributor to the review of the 2030 Agenda through HLPF, said a varsity statement today.Under Chancellor Matha Amrithanandamayi’s guidance, the university is committed to teaching sustainable development across all disciplines of study.MBA students at the varsity study a core course called EnvironmentalManagement and Sustainable Development (EMSD) and Sulitest is an integral part of the course, it said.

For over four years now, over 1,000 Amrita MBA students have undertaken this test successfully.

Amrita School of Business has figured prominently in the annual report released by the UN on the basis of the number of tests taken per academic organisation, according to Chairman Dr Raghu Raman, who represented it at this annual event at the UN.

In 2019, the university improved its position by 10 notches to the top 20 institutes from that as one among the top 30 institutes in 2018.

Coimbatore : A road map for solving the challenges being faced in water, food, health and energy sectors was discussed at an expert consultants in this field and a brain storming session organised at Karunya University on the outskirts here Tuesday.The road map likely to be ready in another month will be submitted to the Central and State governments and also local bodies for implementation, requesting the need to revisit the policies if necessary, the University Chancellor, Dr Paul Dhinakaran told reporters.The session discussed the future security in the water and food sector and also its management, even as the entire world was facing critical challenge in the water sector, he said.The university wanted the students to take up research and innovation in the fields and set up start ups to tackle the problems, Paul Dhinakaran said.All stakeholders, including from the Government, Industry, and other sectors participated in the eight-hour brain storming session and gave
suggestions, Director Naitonal Center for Scienitific Research office in India, Embassy of France, Dr Srini M Kaveri said.The session discussed the available technology, the gap in adaptation of technology, policy and funding mechanisms to meet the crises in these sectors.With coronavirus hitting China, there was the possibility of such viruses spreading the entire world in another 20 to 30 years, resulting in the need to find out new medicines, he said.

இதில், துணைவேந்தர் குமார் பேசியதாவது:இந்தியாவில் நகரமயமாக்கல், தொழிற்சாலைகளின் வளர்ச்சி காரணமாக, ஆற்றல் தேவை நாளுக்கு நாள் அதிகரித்து வருகிறது.தமிழ்நாடு வேளாண் பல்கலையில் ஆற்றல் சேமிப்பு மற்றும் குறைப்பு தொடர்பாக பல்வேறு நடவடிக்கைகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு வருகிறது.முதல்கட்டமாக, மாணவர் விடுதிகளில், 'சோலார் லைட்' பொருத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. பல்கலையின் அனைத்து கட்டடங்களிலும், சோலார் பேனல் அமைக்க திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
