I don't think the ground built is that much bigger..... And also there is no full round pavilion..... How will they host international matches here? In my opinion to host intl. matches, they should look the possibility to build up a new stadium at a bigger area, Somewhat little away from the city....
It looks CDCA and TNCA just started to market the ground in magazines. Play area size is perfect for Intl matches (73 mts all side) but gallery facilities are the main size. It will be better than some of the NZL grounds. For now Ranji and TNPL are possible, IPL and Intl are distant dreams.

There are news for sometime SG was looking for 20 acres near hiills (BU or AU or Kovaipudur) for a full fledged stadium. First let outsiders see the other facilities (hotel, domestic flight, climate etc) in CBE and then new stadium will come-up within 2-4 years.

There is a post in facebook before 5 years, that Coimbatore Corporation have chosen sites near Vadavalli(Near Bharathiyaar Univ) and MTP road (before Karamadai) to built international cricket stadium. Not sure what happen to that now.

In SNR Cricket ground, we can maximum expect TNPL and Ranji Tropy matches [IPL & International matches are not all possible in this ground]. Hope TNPL cricket league happens in Coimbatore this year and if it goes in big sucess then we can expect new stadium soon. And maximum spectator gallery we can expect is around 10k in SNR ground.

Since Chennai cricket stadium is also having 3-stand issues, its right time for Tamilnadu cricket association to built new stadium. In Tamilnadu after Chennai, Coimbatore has all facilities interms of required infrastructure like 5-Star hotels, Airport, Hospitals..etc. Minimum 15 acres of land required to build good stadium.

TNPL likely to begin after World Cup

There is a strong possibility of Coimbatore being introduced as a venue.

Tamil Nadu Premier League is likely to get underway after the conclusion of the ICC ODI World Cup,

The final of the big event in England is on July 14 and the TNPL should start within a week of the summit clash at Lord’s.

Once again, the event will be aired on Star Sports. “The duration of TNPL will be three weeks. Natham and Tirunelveli are confirmed venues,” said TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan to Sportstar on Monday.

The final could be held at Chepauk if the relaid pitches are ready on time.

There is a strong possibility, according to sources, of Coimbatore being introduced as a TNPL venue. The ground is ready and, if the decision goes in its favour early June, then the temporary stands and the floodlights can be installed within a week.

The buzzing Coimbatore, given its infrastructure including quality hotels and love for the game, could turn out to be a popular venue, many believe. And having Coimbatore in the mix will be in keeping with TNPL’s motto of taking the event to more districts.

But wouldn’t TNPL suffer from a Word Cup viewer fatigue, being held so soon after the mega event. Prasanna replied, “I don’t think so. If you look at the World Cup, only the viewership for India matches is very high within India. And a few other matches, towards the end of the league, have high viewership only if they have a bearing on India’s progress.”

Details about player draft and retentions for the upcoming TNPL season will be known in the first week of June, said Prasanna.

And a request has been sent to the BCCI to allow outstation cricketers. At least those players who have retired from first class cricket can be allowed to play in TNPL, said a source.

The fourth edition of TNPL will mostly include Coimbatore but outstation cricketers are a question mark.

In times when outdoor spaces are shrinking, here is one that is “The biggest trampoline Park in South India,” according to Mukund R, Marketing head of FunzXtreme, a company that is owned by Chennai-based Praveen Mani and Karthikeyan VLS.

The area is huge covering 30, 000 sq feet and it took six months to complete the project. “We started the work in January and imported all the rides from China,” says Mukund. And the real exciting bit is at the 6,500 sq ft that is devoted to a giant trampoline. It is not only for kids, assures Mukund who says even adults can have a lot of fun here. “We are very particular about hygiene and we will be provide socks for the users. They are also designed to give additional grip on the trampoline surface,”he says. Precautions have been taken to ensure its safety in accordance with international standards. These include protective nets and cushioned pillars.

Mukund strongly recommends the Sticky Walls. “Those who wish to try this will wear a velcro jacket and throw themselves at the wall. Their jackets will stick to the walls and they will have to exert some pressure to free themselves,’he laughs.

Info you can use

Rides start from ₹40
The trampoline park is equipped with nursing and changing rooms
Open on all days from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm
At FunzXtreme (FX), 207, Mettupalayam Rd, Abirami Nagar, Koundampalayam

Besides hours of trampoline fun, the park also offers 19 video games, dashing car arena, table soccer, snooker, play station and a soft play area for kids. The latter is fashioned like a castle with cushioned walls and floor. It is perfectly safe for children as young as three, he says. A food court serves Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisines. “We make everything fresh in the kitchen. There is also a party hall that can be rented for free. We will only charge for the rides and food. The maximum number of people that we can accommodate there is 200,” he explains and says, “We will soon add a hockey and a football turf in the compound.”

Coimbatore renews efforts to complete hockey ground in R.S. Puram

Corporation has engaged consultant to prepare detailed project report

For fourth time, the Coimbatore Corporation has got a free hit to complete the construction of the hockey ground in its higher secondary school on West Arokiasamy Road, R.S. Puram.

The first time the Corporation got an opportunity was in 2012-13. The then Mayor, S.M. Velusamy, announced that the civic body would construct a hockey ground at ₹ 6 crore. But, the Corporation missed it to bureaucratic hurdles.

It got a second chance when Mr. Velusamy repeated the announcement in the 2013-14 budget, but it squandered the opportunity. This resulted in the Corporation losing around ₹ 75 lakh – the money it spent towards levelling the ground, buying materials for shock pad and synthetic turf – as the failure to continue the construction of the ground resulted in students from the school and boys from the neighbourhood using it to play cricket and ride bicycles.

The third chance that the Corporation missed came in September 2018 when it floated tenders, but did little thereafter.

The fourth time, the chance has come with the Coimbatore Smart City Limited getting ₹19.50 crore from the Smart Cities Mission to rebuild the ground and construct a stadium.

Sources in the Coimbatore Corporation said that the Coimbatore Smart City Limited Board approved of the proposal at a meeting held in Chennai a few days ago to resume construction of the ground and a stadium.

The Corporation, meanwhile, has engaged a consultant to prepare the detailed project report for the ground and stadium.

A representative of the consultant company, Phoenix Design Studios, said the new stadium would have galleries on the eastern and western sides of the ground to seat around 4,000 spectators. It would also have dormitories for men and women players, rooms for referees, officials, gym and dining area.

The stadium would also have adequate parking space for at least 100 cars and 500 two-wheelers and separate entrances for public and players, officials and VIPs.

As for the ground, the company had suggested engaging International Hockey Federation-approved companies and using approved materials as per specification, the representative added.

Welcoming the Corporation’s renewed efforts, Coimbatore District Hockey Association secretary P. Senthil Rajkumar said if the civic body were to complete the project successfully, it would boost hockey not only in Coimbatore, but also the western part of the State.

The Corporation should complete all the brick and mortar work and then take up the ground construction because cement dust could spoil the turf. The last time when the Corporation took up the hockey ground project at the instance of the then Mayor P. Rajkumar, the Association was willing to lend support, but there was no reciprocation from the team that took up construction.

The glue used to prepare and lay the shock pad was well past its expiry date and the turf was not used at all. The synthetic turf that remained rolled cannot be used and the Corporation would have to buy a new one. Mr. Rajkumar also said flood lighting the ground would do no good, something that the Association said even the last time. The capital and recurring expenditure on the lighting would not give the returns.

The Corporation would do well to divert towards construction of a hostel and kitchen the money earmarked for the lights as that would help budding players stay and train at the ground.

Just heard from n.sreenivasan of [email protected] today's final live telecast that Coimbatore may be added as new venue for the next season TNPL.Good if it materialize..
Most states like Kerala, AP, MH, MP, GJ, having two or more Intl.Cricket stadiums. It's time for Tamil Nadu to have another intl.cricket stadium. And it should be in Coimbatore, which is the 2nd largest city in TN and also well connected one. I wish such an announcement or plan or even work to be started before next IPL or Tnpl....

Already mentioned as below, they want to implement in phases. With mall is successful, they will capitalize the situation. But in general financial market is not good in India for now (until end of 2019).

Civic body asked to complete zoo modernisation project in nine months

Civic body asked to complete zoo modernisation project in nine months^^^^

Central Zoo Authority wants status report to be submitted every two months
Nine months starting September is the time limit that the Central Zoo Authority has given the Coimbatore Corporation to start the zoo modernisation project.

Sources in the Corporation said that the Authority gave the time limit after a team from here met it in New Delhi a few days ago.

Within the next nine months, the Corporation should finalise the detailed project report for zoo modernisation, submit the same to the Authority for approval, carry out changes, if any, and thereafter float tenders for taking up the work.

During this nine-month period, the Corporation would have to submit a status report every two months, as mandated by the Authority.

The current status of the zoo was that the consultant the Corporation had engaged for the purpose of preparing the detailed project report had almost completed his work. Once the consultant submitted the report, the Corporation would study it, take it to the Authority for approval, carry out changes if necessary and float tenders to start work.

The Corporation had been struggling to modernise the zoo, which at present does not have adequate space for over 500 birds, mammals and reptiles. The Corporation had housed all of them within the 4.35 acre zoo.

After scouting for land in various parts of the city, the Coimbatore has now zeroed in on the 20.53 acre land near the Coimbatore Central Prison to develop the zoo. The land was earlier earmarked for developing 'Semmozhi Poonga'.
