We capture so many different developments but don't often get a full picture of how the market is going and the scale of construction taking place across South Africa.

JLL release a quarterly report that looks in Industrial and Office space development across Durban, Cape Town and Joburg. It has some interesting facts on the scale of commercial and industrial development pipelines and under construction in the main urban centres.

Durban currently has over 250,000m2 of industrial space under construction, with a further 137,000m2 of plans getting approval in Q1 2018. With the highest rates for industrial rental. Makes sense as the city has always been way more industrial focused than office property.

On the office property front it is interesting to see the levels across the main cities and the vast difference of the scale in Joburg to Durban or Cape Town.

Durban | 1,567,309m2 | 146,545m2

However it is impressive to see, as evident on the vast number of threads in this forum, that Durban is currently punching way above its traditional position in terms of new office development.
