And if they have high roller gaming lounges, surely they are double height ceilings like Crown in Melbourne?

Which applies to the gaming floors in the podium, but not to the hotel rooms which will be in the tower.
It hasn't been specified exactly where the gaming floors will be and its more than likely it will be somewhere in the upper floors of the tower so gamblers can also be impressed by the views.
I think the podium will be mostly confined to bars, cafes, restaurants and shops as well as the hotel lobby. Higher end bars, restaurants and VIP gaming facilities will be located further up.

I think you'd expect higher floor to ceiling heights than the norm for levels with hotel floors as well as the other uses.

Generally gaming floors need large floor areas, so you can fit all the tables in one room and have the necessary crowd and noise for a proper big casino atmosphere. Though, VIP rooms may have different requirements, quieter with more exclusivity. But one expects the main gaming room to be in the podium.
VIP rooms will generally be away from the main gaming areas. All we know is that 2-3 floors are needed.
Crown Towers Melbourne is probably a good guide for floor to ceiling heights.

Emporis (assuming its correct) lists Crown Towers as 141.46m tall to the roof. It's 43 floors.

Therefore, 141.46/43 = 3.28977m per floor.

So...

At 45 stories (the lowest figure in the SMH article);
3.28977m/floor x 45 floors = 148m to roof.

At 60 stories (the highest figure in the SMH article);
3.28977m/floor x 60 floors = 197.4m to roof.

At 70 stories (the highest figure in the Telegraph article);
3.28977m/floor x 70 floors = 230.3m to roof.

Note that these numbers do not include architectural features/spires (Crown Towers Melbourne has an 11m architectural feature taking the official height to 152.46m).

Will Crown attempt to steal the crown for Sydney's tallest building? (please attempt a wry smile at what I did there).

well done sky. you may have cracked the code ;)
guys, this is moving fast.
DA to be lodged this month ;)
as in within 8 days?
wow

do you think this was the "mystery model" you saw?
^^ ;)
Ok here is my guess.

I DONT think it will be 70 stories - just sounds too high to get away with without potential outrage. I think it will be around 50 Stories.

50X~3.2 = 160m + 4 floors podium = 160+ 12.8 = 172.8m. If there is a similar arch feature as the earlier proposal it will be anywhere between 20-40m
therefore 173+20 = 193 or 173+30 = 203 and highest possible outcome 173+40 = 213

Should it be any other number of stories then same shit. Multiply by 3.2, add 13m and then add another 20-40m

Hope i am terribly wrong and its one tall F*%$n building lol but i do think only the worst possible very slim outcome will see it fall short of 200m
200m+ ;)
Endless bloody stress!
It's the not knowing that gets me.
sure dude i am not talking about the actual proposal im talking final outcome, after people have expressed outrage and consultations and bla bla bla - i think it will end up being 190-213 (50 stories)

Proposal could be anything perhaps 250m but highly unlikely it will be the final DA
Nimbys no say.the hotel already off the water.its packer were talking about.no more delays.

A sentence spoken by many a hypochondriac!

It looks like Packer will get his casino licence as well according to reports in The Daily Telegraph (24/10/2012): http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/ne...no-at-barangaroo/story-fndo28a5-1226501868815

Labor have also indicated their support.

That means approval could happen on Monday for the hotel/casino.
