A ceremony marking the start of construction of a new Bulgarian-Romanian border crossing at Nikopol-Turnu Magurele was held on Saturday (16 April). The project, which also envisions the construction of a new ferryboat terminal, is financed under the EU PHARE programme, with completion expected by autumn 2006.
In other news, Bulgaria and Serbia agreed to enhance bilateral transport and communications ties, as well as co-operation in interstate border control, during a meeting of senior government officials Friday. Starting in 2006, the two countries would run a joint border railway station check in Dimitrovgrad, Serbia to reduce the amount of time trains spend at the border.

Lol, but you don't get it Pavle, being part of the EU doesn't mean no border corssings, being part of the Schengen Agreement does. Currently 15 countries are part of it, only 12 of those are EU members. Basically, EU15 without UK and Ireland plus Iceland and Norway.

New EU members (EU10) won't be able to become part of Schengen till 2007, Bulgaria and Romania probably even later, as there are special requirements which I doubt they will be able to fulfill until 2007.

well as romanesc said, we all wait for the bridge construction.
it's incredible how our govt has stalled the project for over a decade, there's always a problem, from money to the romanian govt to the bulgarian govt, etc.
now it seems it should start by the 2006, but they said the same thing in 2000 and delayed it when the govt changed, so... :|
