Actually i don't think it's so dramatic.The architecture of the low rises is in most cases IMO better than the high-rises.
But as more and more people move to the cities,the cities will eventually stop expanding and the only solution will be high-rises

Ireland. My city has only 1 building taller than 10 stories and they are talking about imposing a cap of 3 stories on all buildings in the western part of the city

GREECE no doubt.We are sostuborn that we prefer living in MONSTER-CITIES with 5-7 storey blocks of flata forevery use(office ,home etc) than builing some skyscrapers for business in some areas and develop beautiful suburban areas with small houses of 2 storeys.

Not really a standard, more of an accident really, in the case of Dublin anyway. I know the tallest buildings are small but amidst the Georgian houses the likes of Liberty Hall and the Central Bank stick out. Typical Ireland, everything done half-right.
