Zagreb will have a study about LRT done by the end of this year.
LRT will most probobly have 30km of tracks underground, and about 25km overground.
Four lines are planned.
Two on the west-east direction, and two on the north-south direction.

Expantion of the Zagreb suburban rail network is allso about to begin.

Split has a 1.9km undrground rail tunnel that runs under the city center. There are two underground stations that need to be refubished for use. This will be done when the Split suburban network starts to expand, somwhere in 2010.

On the long term (2015.-2020.) plan is a complete reconstruction of the Croatian railways. This will lead to ICE-T/Pendolino/xyz train introduction!

ICS train Pendolino, usually between Ljubljana and Maribor

2-car regional Desiro

3-car Desiro

For long distance regional services

Commuter train, recently rebuilt

Similiar like the upper one

For longer regional travels

Some locomotives:

These are new - currently 4 of them.

20 ordered for 2006:

Many older trains have been and are still being sold to Serbia and Bosnia.

2 very important corridors are going through Slovenia - the 5th one is very important and there are many plans about it. Many investments from EU are offered and expected.

Nice, we have the same trains in Germany

Corridor 5 is the one which goes from Kiev to Lisbon crossing northern Italy
Italy is very interested in its strong development

I knew Slovenia now cares more about new highways and doesn't provide much on its railways renovation

Is it correct or are there now important developments forecasted?
Are there any previsions for a rapid rail link between Trieste and Budapest?

BTW
I like Slovenian Pendolino :)

nice pics Ljubljana! this yellow locomotion at 10th picture is purposed mostly for mountain railroads, we in Croatia have one that runs around Rijeka. Those at the last photo are really good. Ugly (for me), but good. I think that those models that SŽ are about to buy can run up to 230 km/h and that's great! i hope that Končar is going to make some new locomotion model that shall run about 200 km/h! It is allready time that they make something new!
And question - do you know how many Pendolino's SŽ own?

And question for Mic - where did you find this great map?

I made these pics with my mobile phone on my trip from Split to Zagreb:

Koncar and Gradelj are involved in reconstruction of all Croatian Koncar made loco's (late 70 and early 80's) anyways HZ was so impressed they might ask them to design and build completely new Loco, and red one you really hate (Slovene railways), sorry to say Croatia is getting 20 of them they are Simmens locos they can run on variable electricity supply. 15, 25, 3000 and so on... :)

These locos can achieve 230kmph...

sorry I forgot to credit ppl responsible for this map, guy's name is Boris Chomenko, he made great site if you have time take a peek http://bueker.net/trainspotting/maps.php , anyways find wasn't mine but Ottenger Croat (OC) from Croatian threads found the site and credit goes to him for a find, I only stole the map :D
great pics mate, very nice, :)

I had an newspaper article summing up the whole railway thing for B&H,but its entirely in bosnian/serbian/croatian so its useless posting it here..

Ok so here`s the situation for Bosnia & Herzegovina...
BH railways took a loan from European Bank for development in amount of 70 mil € for reconstruction of almost the whole railway network, for reconstruction and modernisation of some of the most important train stations, and for getting new trains...
By the end of this year BH railways is gonna order 9 compositions of these talgo trains

And by the end of 2010 first delivery of Talgo 350 trains will arrive from Spain to BH railways (also with a litlle help of European Bank for development...ok a litlle bit bigger help hehe)

^^ bosnia with high-speed rails? pretty friggin hilarious. no offense intended, but dream on. sure, maybe, but they'll have to run at like 160 km/h or less.
Top thread guys with heaps of cool info. :eek:kay:

There's quite a lot of upgrading happening across the rail networks of all 3 countries.

I quite like the look of the Slovene Siemens trains ....

hey i was wondering, how come all these EMU's have huge, ugly, unstreamlined boxes on the roof?

slovenian railways:

austrian railways:

german railways:

only the new Stadler EMU's, currently used by the Swiss State Railways, dont, but thats because the roofline was raised to accomodate them:

^^ trully a beautiful train. must be twice as expensive as Croatia's Bombardiers.

Bosnia is getting Talgo Trains, I don't know which version, but they are getting them, as to speeds I don't know what speeds they going to go at, Bosnia has section of track which allows for speeds up to 200kmph, but EU funds will certainly play major role in revitalisation of Bosnian Railways. I know 70 million is peanuts but it is a start..

Slovenia has ETR 450's and they can go at most 160/200kmph in Slovenia but none the less they got them in 2004...
Croatia is testing ICE-T's and ETR450's don't know if they got them already and testing started but they are about to test them in Croatia, I hope they choose ICE-t's... they look much nicer than ETR450's... .

LF, try to find out if you have time call someone I would but it is expensive to call from here, I need to save some money for Christmas gifts, :D
I just noticed those boxes too. Its not a difficult thing to conceal either ..... :dunno:
they are transformers and power boxes, they can't be put bellow passenger compartments bc of safety concerns, thus they are on the roof and I know they look ugly, lol, hopefully they going to learn from tram manufactures and cover them with skirts or something...
