Current Anfield

As most of you know with liverpool being sold the new owners may possibly stay at Anfield instead of building a new stadium

Are there any Architects/Engineers on here who could perhaps enlighten me if it would be feasable to re-develop Anfield to 60,000 seats?

What stands would be demolished/added to? Is there enough room behind the stands etc?

This image has been floating around for years, it shows the potential development of Anfield up to 50,000 or 55,000 seats.

But I'm entirely sceptical about this ever happening. Look at how many houses have to be destroyed! Moving to a new site makes so much more sense.

They own quite alot of the houses around Anfield now though so its possible
So basically turning one stand into an Olympiastadion-style job?

Not the right kind of stand for Anfield, IMO. If they do redevelop, I hope they keep it all straight lines and right angles. No soppy curves - whatever the current fixation with optimum pitch-to-seat distances might dictate.

Looks like there's scope for a bigger Anfield Rd end on those drawings.

Could the Kop have another tier?
Liverpool have to compete with Man U and Arsenal. Their grounds bring in a load of lolly. Liverpool need a 73,000 seater with a large Merseyrail station. otherwise we will end up like Everton or Spurs.

Liverpool and the stadiums
I loved your designs G.C

The Centernary would probably get a 3rd tier but the main stand and anfield road stand would probably both be demolished and re-built alot bigger!

KOP will stay as it is
Does anyone know what has happened behind the Anfield Rd end?
On Google maps there are buildings, but on Streetview these seem to have been cleared.
If Liverpool could rebuild this end, to say, 15,000, and also rebuild the Main stand to 20,000, they'd have a stadium getting on for 60,000.

Not as large as OT, but I think there comes a point with football grounds where you just start adding seats for their own sake - has anyone seen the view you get from the top of the North Stand at OT?
You could add a 3rd tier to the Centenary Stand, but would this be cost effective?

It is now cleared, this was to link the Anfield plaza to the new ground

It's not as simple as just adding a tier, you have right of light issues and height issues aswell

Yes, remember how long it took to get the Centenary stand built. Weren't the renders first put out in about 78/79?

And it always has been totally inadequate, and the roof supports stop any filling in of the corners. More wasted space in a very restricted site.

If we want a proper stadium with all the facilities(underground parking, corporate space, enough room to expand) we need long term plan. A new stadium.

the kemlyn road was a **** up from the start,it held 6500 seats and the roof cost a fortune(from simon inglis football grounds of england and wales) think it cost more than the 10000 seater(plus terrace and boxes) original north stand at old trafford.

Well a solution to this would be to add another tier and cantilever the roof rather than using having the roof supports running up the sides then over the top of the stand. This would increase existing capacity and make it easier to fill the corners in.

In terms of corporate hospitality you could add an extra line of boxes at the top of the current stand, under a new tier and renovate the top tier to make it a corporate area.

It would be such a shame to lose another great ground.
