A construction permit has been issued for the D1/D2 interchange reconstruction at Brno.

They plan to launch a tender in Q3 2023 and start construction in 2024, with a duration of 4 years.

It is part of a project to expand D1 to six lanes along the south side of Brno.

Great news!

Not many realize the importance of this interchange. All traffic coming from Turkey, Balkans, Romania going through Hungary to reach Western Europe, through Slovakia and then Czechia has to eventually at one point go through this interchange.

I've never understood why the interchange was even done like that in the first place, especially if it was designed / built during communist era, where D1 was a priority to get connected (and was) with Bratislava... Traffic now going from D2 to D1 towards Prague has to take a 1 way ramp loop going towards Prague and there's a lot of inter - weaving as well (can be noticed on street view as well).

I hope that the flyover ramps (at least on the direction towards Prague) are 2 lanes per direction, that would greatly improve things.

Why is there white signage on the D1 extension in Prague? According to Street View this is quite new.

^^First kilometres of D1 was downgraded from motorway status.
I don't think this segment was ever considered to be part of D1. This is still within the city limits of Prague.
Since 2016 white background of directional signs has been allowed as legal option for city-owned roads. The city of Prague chose to use this colour. Signs on some sections of city ring road and radials have been redesigned systematically since then.

When is I/11 between Třinec and D48 expected to open? Is it gonna get D- or I/11 number? If D-, which, and is current I/11 gonna be designated into D as well, and on which part?
^^I/68 ?
Yes, it will be I/68 expressway. Renumbering of the whole section of I/11 from D48 to the border with Slovakia to I/68 shall take place later this year.

Construction has started on a 9 kilometer segment of D6 in the Hořesedly area. To be completed in 2025.

It is one of several contracts of D6 to be constructed simultaneously in this area.

The D6 extension will be in full swing this year.

I wonder what they have planned at Karlovy Vary though. Are they going to expand the existing road to four lanes? The geometry appears unfavorable for a true motorway.

Karlovy Vary already have a 4-lane through-road along the Ohře river. The remaining 2-lane section near Drahovice (in the eastern part of town) will be expanded to 4 lanes within the last D6 project (K4 on the map) together with the uphill/downhill section between Drahovice and Olšová Vrata (KV airport) as a 1st class road. The motorway will begin at the Olšová Vrata intersection.

In a long term a bypass is possible on the northern outskirts of Karlovy Vary. A feasibility study has been made that shown too little benefits comparing to its costs, so for now it is only a zoning reserve for the future.
