Currently at the planning stage of a trip to Zanzibar (4 or 5 nights) and Dar end of June 2020.
Need some advises on where to stay on the island.

Preselected options are :

- Hotel Verde Zanzibar - Azam Luxury Resort & Spa in the north of Stone Town
http://www.verdehotels.com

- Sea Cliff Resort and Spa, west coast
https://seacliffzanzibar.com

- Gold Zanzibar Beach House & Spa in Kendwa, west coast
http://www.goldzanzibar.com

- Riu Palace Zanzibar on Nungwi - north coast
https://www.riu.com/fr/hotel/tanzania/zanzibar/hotel-riu-palace-zanzibar/

- Essque Zalu Zanzibar Nungwi - North
https://www.essquehotels.com

- Melia Zanzibar in Kiwengwa - east coast
https://www.melia.com/fr/hotels/la-tanzanie/zanzibar/melia-zanzibar/

- Diamonds Mapenzi Beach in Kiwengwa - east coast
https://mapenzibeach.diamondsresorts.com/fr/

We would like a resort not too isolated with a beautiful beach (and not too crowded).
All option are on half board basis except Hotel Verde (breakfast only) and Riu + Diamonds (all inclusive).

How easy is it to go to another town/local attraction using public transport, even in the evening/night?

How does the west coast compare to east coast/Nungwi?

IMO, Will go for VERDE. Near stone town, several great beaches near eg Nakupenda Beach and the Prison island. Transport is very convennient according to what i have observed , You can take Chai Maharage(Vehicles) or other mini van around stone town and negotiate the price. I think its very convenient for a tourist to get around in Zanzibar, plus , very safe.

Thanks Kiligoland:)
Hotel Verde is a likely option with these advantages:
- its situation in town.
- one of the cheapest.
- the greenest hotel in Zanzibar with environmentall best practice.

However it feels more like a business hotel than a resort. Do you know why west coast beaches are not the most praised? So is there a need to commute up to Nungwi?
Finally with the Azam Watersport & Marina nearby it might be quite noisy with lots of children

Is it safe to move around at night too?

Nakupenda beach is really nice btw

EDIT: after reading some online reviews, this hotel totally bans alcohol - which is a deal breaker - especially during the UEFA Euro 2020 :cripes:
