Villar-led Vista Land puts Davao township project on the backburnerVista Land and Lifescapes Inc. through its subsidiary Camella Davao will launch its 170-hectare township development in Toril by second quarter this year.
This township development, located about 12 kilometers south of downtown area, will be the biggest development by Camella Davao.
“We’ve been doing very well and the company attributes this to the influx of new investments in the Davao region,” said Marlon Escalicas, Camella Davao southmin cluster head.
Township Inclusion:“It’s just put on hold because we are still waiting for the development plan of the local government related to the bypass circumferential road as it is going to traverse our property,” Marlon B. Escalicas, Vista Land South Mindanao cluster head, said in an interview last week.
The Villar-led company has drawn up plans for a 170-hectare community in Toril, located about 12 kilometers south of the downtown area. It will be the biggest development by Camella Davao this year.
“When we push through [with the project], we will change the landscape of Toril slowly but surely. We don’t want to rush it because we want first the finalization of the city’s development plan. That is something that we are very excited about,” Mr. Escalicas said.
The planned 44.58-kilometer road will span from Toril District in the south to the boundary with Panabo City, Davao del Norte in the north. The Regional Development Council has included the P16.8-billion project in its proposed budget for 2017.
Mr. Escalicas said the new highway will make the township a prime property.
Source: BusinessWorld OnlineMr. Cortez said the road design and implementation plan has been finalized and approving new real estate development along the route would mean additional right-of-way costs or an adjustment of the project scope. The bypass project is divided into two packages: Package I covering 28.8 kilometers (km), to be financed by JICA; and Package II consisting of 44.6 km to be bankrolled by the government.
“The bypass road will connect Toril (in the south of Davao City) through Barangay Magtuod to Panabo (City, Davao del Norte),” Mr. Cortez said. “The first phase will stop at Magtuod, which will host the two tunnels.” he added. He also said that the initial plan was to build just a single tunnel, but the study for the project showed the possibility of traffic congestion by 2023.
The first phase is targeted for completion in three years.
The CPDO chief, who used to head the Davao City Investment Promotion Center, said 2018 will be very busy for the city construction-wise as several infrastructure projects will be ongoing.
