1)what grinds me much is khmer people compare everything to the toul kork people in particular setting them as the status-quo(THE frame of reference)
2)the sayings khmer people are rich look they got lexus and bmw we in aus only have toyota(using skewed statistics to describe generality)
3) Cambodia is doing so great in growth (compared to who) (all of asia is growing fast)
4) Phnom Penh is a huge asian city (really, population = 2.5 millions <5million, in asia having a city less than 5 million is too small a size to be considered)
5) cambodians are very educated now (ok, this is a big deal we have 100k people in uni, but the was a report that only 1000 or so women graduate every year and only 1 phd in all of kh, outbound international students excluded WTF :bash:)

Number of Cambodian women university graduates remains low: minister
English.news.cn 2014-02-24 13:03:44 More
PHNOM PENH, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- The number of women graduated from institutions of higher education remained low in Cambodia due to absorption of garment workforce and poor living conditions, Minister of Women's Affairs Ing Kantha Phavi said Monday.

"Last year, only one female student, or 0.09 percent, graduated with a doctorate degree, 469 women, or 24 percent, completed the master degree, and 687 women attended the bachelor degree study in universities," she said at an annual women's conference, which was presided over by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The minister said barriers to female students' development included the absorption of workforce into garment factories, poor living conditions of families, and limited coverage of scholarships.

In addition, the number of dormitories is not able to meet the need, she added.

Cambodia has made remarkable progress in poverty reduction over the past few years. According to a World Bank report released last week, the poverty rate in Cambodia stood at 20.5 percent, involving 3 million people, as of 2011, which sharply dropped from 53 percent or 6.9 million people in 2004.

Chinese saying 井底之蛙 (Frog in a well).

2. There are lots of Lexus, there are also tonnes of road-unworthy cars, and more motocycles, and heaps of road-unworthy motocycles.

3. It is easy to have big growth when you are small, it is like telling a kid, you are great, you got 20% improvement, you score from 5% to 6%. Look at that so called smartest kid in town, he actually got worse, from 98% to 96%.

China is enjoying double digit growth, and they think they are top of the world, but no, they have only reach about half of America.

5. Educated! Come on, some teachers is probably not educated.

It will take some time for women to get equal opportunity.

I think it is unfair to say that "some teachers are probably not educated". I am sure that they are educated, but the level may not as high as most people expect.

Yep, level not as high as most people expect.
^^ most teachers in aus have masters in teaching/education, the current requirement now is also band 5 english = 80%, but most are really incompetent, my english teacher gets taught by my friend mel
Outsiders are wrongly presumed Cambodians are rich because they owns a Lexus. My friend who is in his 30's, a good example of a middle class, working in a foreign company as a manager and earning US$2000 a month can afford one. Lexus in Cambodia is considerably cheaper than elsewhere. Rich people in Cambodia will probably go for Porsche, Bentley or Ferrari, Lamborghini.

Cambodia growth rate is on par with Laos and Myanmar. The expected growth rate for Cambodia this year is 7% (7.3% for Laos and 7.8% for Myanmar). Philippines is likely to sustain its growth momentum of 7% this year if export growth, domestic consumption, and infrastructure spending will increase.

is about the mininum standard, all teachers have to be competent, so comparison is based on the lowest performing one
