Willis St has been at the centre of the urban rumour mill lately, so here's a graphical summary of developments, planned or otherwise, in the Willis St area:

A. 22-42 Willis St - Previously on the market, watch this space.
B. Willis Central, 44-48 Willis & 66 Boulcott - Announced, but no further info available.
C. Boulcott St Carpark - Was originally the site of a planned tower in the 1980s, but killed off by the 1987 sharemarket crash.
D. New World Metro Tower, 66 Willis St (levels 6-19). Official real estate listing on realcommercial.co.nz.
E. 76-80 Willis St. Placeholder web site hasn't changed much.
F. Chews Lane Precinct - under construction.
G. Sports shop corner next to Dominion Apartments.

Still no new info yet. Mr Serepisos will probably wait until Century City and the Cuba-Dixon corner are finished first.

·Overseas Passenger Terminal report released

Greater Wellington Regional Council today released the officer’s report on the proposed Overseas Passenger Terminal redevelopment, which has recommended to the hearing committee that the proposal be declined. The recommendation for the decline is due to effects on the historic heritage of Clyde Quay Wharf and on existing users and surrounding activities during the construction period. There were also issues around the effects of the proposed building on wind speeds, traffic management, views and construction-related effects such as noise dust, vibration and the release of sediment into the harbour.
”We understand that the applicant will be addressing these issues at the hearing and we expect that they are resolvable,” Greater Wellington Environmental Regulation manager Al Cross said. He said the officer’s report was not a decision but rather a recommendation to the hearing committee, which would meet to consider the proposal from 18 February. The committee will consider evidence provided at the hearing by the applicant and its experts, and submitters.
The proposal involves redeveloping the existing building into an apartment complex with a mezzanine and four levels above wharf level and one level below for parking, with a maximum height of approximately 21.4 metres. The wharf would retain its existing footprint, with the exception of a low-level jetty extension at the north end, however the footprint of the building on the wharf would increase.
Greater Wellington is handling the proposed development because the site is in the coastal marine area which has regional council jurisdiction under the Resource Management Act. The council received 206 submissions on the proposal, 131 in favour, 69 opposed and six neutral. The hearing committee comprises GW Councillors Sally Baber (Chair), Prue Lamason and an independent commissioner.

^^ That's kind of interesting. I'm a bit surprised, given the money the developer will be sinking into fixing the jetty itself, which is degrading dangerously. This design seems quite considered compared to what you could have had. Hopefully the issues will be resolved and it will be allowed to go ahead. That area needs more people to help support the businesses that are there and better utilise Waitangi park.
And has anyone seen the front page of the property section in the dom today? The second stage of the republic project has been released. Looking rather large now... I suppose some people will object to the now larger scale, but I rather like the brick facades. It looks classier than many other apartment buildings in the area.

Il Casino making way for apartments

The Tory St site of well-known Italian restaurant Il Casino is to be redeveloped into a nine-storey 23-apartment building.
Wellington City Council spokesman Richard MacLean confirmed the council had approved the development.
Remiro Breslin opened Il Casino in 1976 and, in the next three decades, it gained an international reputation for the quality of its cuisine. It closed in 2006 for refurbishment, but after Mr Breslin was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, his family put the property on the market.
It was bought for $2.25 million by Globe Holdings, a company known for residential developments, including on the former Fort Dorset in the Wellington suburb of Seatoun and the Summit apartments on Molesworth St.
Globe Holdings design manager Rick Willoughby said the new development would be called Appartmento Il Casino. The Il Casino facade would be preserved, with retail on the ground floor and apartments above.
Mr Willoughby said the development would be more upmarket than others in the area, but he would not comment on how much the apartments would cost.
Construction could still be some time off, as marketing had yet to start.
Mr MacLean said the development complied with the area's 27-metre height limit.

I don't know what bit of land this refers to and whether it's something that has already been announced. It's rather vague - be interesting to know more about it.
