The NZ1 Development is for a high-rise building on Lambton Quay, Wellington.
The Building design is for multi-use, incorporating, retail, car-parks, commercial office floors, a five star Hotel, apartments and a public observation area and cafe.
The building is 263m high with 63 floors, and has been designed as a Landmark building for Wellington. A public observation area and cafe is include on the 61st level.
That looks remarkably like the Serepisos Tower proposal that never went ahead due to Uncle Terry's bankruptcy. Especially if this scale model from a previous post is anything to go by.Or an architecture student project perhaps. Where did you find it?
Wellington's "grand old lady", the Albemarle Hotel, will be getting a makeover but will at least keep her face.
The heritage-listed building's latest owner is seeking consent to partially demolish and rebuild it. It would be the first Wellington heritage building to be partially demolished in decades and city planners hope it could offer a blueprint for saving other quake-prone heritage buildings.
The plans would retain the building's Edwardian street-scape in Ghuznee St, its western wall and cupola but most of the inside will be demolished and replaced. At the back, an extra level will be added to the three-storey hotel.
Wellington could soon get a big new convention centre and five-star hotel.
City council chief executive Kevin Lavery revealed yesterday that it was working in partnership with a developer and an international hotel chain.
‘‘We need a large purpose-built conference centre, and we are working on it now,’’ he told a Property Council seminar.
‘‘We do have a developer, we do have a site and we do have a five-star hotel partner.
‘‘It’s not over the line yet – it could go pear-shaped – but it’s looking promising.’’
He was not prepared to give any further details of the proposal, or its location, apart from indicating it would be on a site that would not face big resource consent problems.
Absolutely Positively Wellington chief executive David Perks said he understood a large block of vacant land across the road from Te Papa was being looked at.
‘‘It’s a good site close to Te Papa, close to hotels and close to a good number of city restaurants.’’
Other property sources suggested the land opposite Te Papa, in Cable St, was the most likely location.
The site, which straddles the block between Cable and Wakefield streets, has mostly been used in recent years as a car sales yard.
Yes, the Intercontinental, and I believe also the Bolton. That would be cool.
Does Welly have any 5 star hotels already?
I would say that the car parking building opposite New World and Piermont is more likely. The 'large block of vacant land' is quite possibly the UN Studio site.
