from today's Dom Post. Getting a bit frustrating that WW are against everything for that site. Public space is great on the water front but the most active areas are around the buildings/cafes/bars. That end of the waterfront is just a bit shit at the moment.

Word. People say Auckland has a negative attitude but Wellington appears to be much worse. No flyover, no airport extension, etc. Apart from a few buildings in the city (Telecom, IRD) what good has happened in Wellington in the last 5-10 years?

Edit: Ok they got new trains too, thats a start.

Interestingly, the biggest objector to the Waterfront Hilton wasn't the usual suspects at Waterfront Watch, but the Intercontinental Hotel. 3 guesses as to why.

With the Basin Reserve flyover, it's less an issue of build or not build, but rather what should be built. I'm personally of the view that flyovers are a relic of a previous century, but at the same time, the roads around the Basin Reserve are well overdue for a redesign.
Anyone have info on what's supposed to be going up next to 12 Wigan St.

^^^ lol i think they mean the 'Archaus character' to match their other two building on the street. At least its not a copy of the neighbor, which i wrongly assumed they were planning.

But at least we have this inching a little closer. http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/wellington/9917128/Kumutoto-green-light

Back over from Melbourne for a bit, going to go into the city and take some snaps and see whats going on in a couple of days.
There are a couple projects that are pretty much done. I haven't had a chance to get photos yet though.
Looks like that new apartment building on Wigan St is nearly at full height...

It's pretty simple. People congregate around food. Need more locations with small food stands and public seating.

Is there much in the way of the street food/food truck craze in Wellington?

An indoor market with these, and a dining area (think Chelsea Markets, Gotham, even Singapore hawker centres but nicer) would work, as would an outdoor location.

And of course a big central food produce market like in Barcelona or Borough would be great also. Many of the establishments in there are smaller but semi-permanent.
