Countdown have their sign up on Lambton Quay. I see Fix have moved out next door, replaced by a shiny new Flight Centre with big screens to inspire travel fomo. Flight Centre must be on track to nearly overtake wishbone/subway as having the most stores in the city at this rate.

Looks like there's some demo happening behind the new Xero development. Can't remember what this site will be though. This corner will be unrecognisable in a couple of years!

Any info on what's going on inside Courtney Readings? Ibknow they've started work on the Countdown. But I didn't think it involved the interior of building.

Hilton Hotel Renders

What could have been... I personally believe that they should have made the Clyde Quay Wharf apartments into a hotel with a series of restaurants and cafes at ground level.

Here's also a clearer picture of the newer proposed Hilton. I like the protruding windows. They should remove the Te Papa carpark and put the Chinese Garden there.

I agree. The Te Papa Car Park is just wasted space really. It's not even far from all the Downtown Car Parks.

Yep, it has no place on the waterfront
And is there anything being done about the Waterfront between Queens Wharf and the Bunny/Waterloo Intersection? It's really awkward walking around there and I'd like to see that area become much more accessible and interesting site because we can use the waterfront to its maximum potential!

What TePapa Car park are you specifically referring to ?,

The one in front of the museum?- Its owned by TePapa and a significant contributor to running the museum ( $10 milion anually)

Or the one that is used as the Sunday Fruit Market? - That is owned by Wellington Waterfront (Council) Its basically set aside for the future expansion of TePapa, but until the Goverment provides the money for the building its going nowhere, so like most of the spare waterfront sites (to be PWC) its used as carparks to generate some revenue.
Hilton Hotel

Someone reliable told me that the Hilton Hotel is proposed to be at the car park near Michael Fowler Centre.

I think a Hilton Hotel is currently a pretty dead proposition, It could be made to work opposite TePapa because the Council were chipping in to fund the attached convention Centre, but now that the council are combining the CC with the Peter Jackson Memorial :) I can't see Hilton going alone,

Do you mean the carpark directly adjacent to the Michael Fowler Centre? If so I can't really imagine it to be honest as that site is pretty small and there'll be a pretty rigid height limit in place given that developing the site is such a contested issue within the council - though it'd be a great place for a hotel.

In an ideal world all Te Papa parking would be below the museum and the parking out the front could be turned into something a bit more attractive and leisurely. Or be used for future museum expansion.

Same for the side carpark. A space that could still be used for the market but not used for parking the rest of the time, something that fits the recreational theme of the nearby area.
So off the top of my head major City projects that are going ahead soon include

Movie Museum/Convention centre ($150 million) Feb 2017
Bowen Campus upgrade ($200 million) Nov 2016
XX customhouse quay [ex BP house] ($80 million Foundations underway)
PWC centre ($??, just breaking ground)
Countdown/Readings ($?? prelim work underway now)
Victoria Street Apartment towers (breaking ground soon)

(plus ongoing work at Transpower, Xero and the Cuba Weltec building)

its gonna be a busy 2017 in the Wellington construction sector

Does anyone know whats going on at the lot on Little Pipitea/Pipitea street? I tried to find some info, but the most recent 'project' was posted back in 2008? .

It looks like they're putting up a crane as I walked past this morning?
